Paragraphs

I find it difficult to read a long post without paragraphs. My AIBU is to suggest posters use paragraphs.

You think people who don't use paragraphs are going to click on a thread titled 'Paragraphs', and then clap their hands to their heads and say - 'That's where I've been going wrong, it's paragraphs for me from now on!'?
Such optimism! I'm impressed OP.
Head over to pedants corner, you'll love it. Grin

Some devices irritatingly remove paras after you've crafted and honed your pithy and carefully reasoned post.

SharonEllis · 05/06/2024 05:55

Its a fair point & not pedantic at all! Paragraphs do make things easier to read & certainly easier to skim.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 05/06/2024 05:59

Whilst paragraphs do make things easier to read, I think it's really cruel to dismiss somebody's post because of this.

It is usually a very long post and from someone who needs help.

piningforautumn · 05/06/2024 06:26

It's not cruel to find it difficult to read or maintain focus through a wall of text. Besides, enough readers will usually persevere to ensure there's some response.

I don't know if this is still a thing but a while ago certain devices wouldn't let people put paragraphs in, or rather people put them in and when they posted they disappeared. I remember a thread about it.

Anyway sometimes people are incredibly stressed/traumatised and are probably not thinking of fucking paragraphs.

Everybody finds it difficult to read a long post without paragraphs.

Some people are using devices that remove formatting. Some people don't know how to use formatting and/or paragraphs.

Thankfully, this is a chat forum and not an English language exam.

If you actually have problems understanding the content of the texts written without paragraphs, it might be an idea to have a cognitive check-up or read more to improve your own comprehension skills. Try Ulysses and then tell the Joyce society your opinion about paragraphs.
