Hi all

just been for a spirometer test but the nurse couldn’t give me an inkling as to what the result is and will have to wait 2 weeks, wonder if anyone knows anything about them?
here are some of the results I wrote down :

vc 2.4
Predicted 44-55%
fev 2.44
predicted 72%
fev 2.58 and 2.21
predicted 63%
fef 25-75 194
predicted 47%

does this make any sense? Worried I have severe COPd

My husband used to have these tests annually and I know it’s very worrying but i suggest you wait for the full results to come through with proper interpretation and context. These numbers in isolation are insufficient for anyone to give an informed opinion or full diagnosis as they need to be read in context of age, height, weight, and existing lung conditions etc. 🙂

Thanks just really worrying. The letter is uploaded that says 65% without inhaler 77% with and I have the lung age of a 77 year old. I am 43 so I’m guessing that is bad

Spirometry is a bit of a blunt instrument, but it does tell the clinician whether you have asthma or COPD etc. A proper pulmonary function test in hospital will give a more complete picture.

From what I can gather I have moderate/mild copd

rhe numbers mean nothing without the graph, the background information, knowing whether you did good blows etc etc
no one can give an accurate guess
spiro is a tool to aid diagnosis it has to be performed accurately to have any meaning at all.

Nothingoriginalhere · 31/05/2024 15:59

Oh and we ignore the lung age so don’t worry about that

I'm waiting for one of these tests too, they have found mild creps on a lung exam, bit stressed. Think I might have sleep apnoea. Hope you are Ok OP

This is what I have they were all good blows they wouldn’t use ones that weren’t as sort of their data they said
