Tuna melt paninis

AIBU to believe that a tuna melt panini should contain cheese - hence the ‘melt’? The last two times I’ve had one, from different places, there has been NO CHEESE, only horrid warm tuna. What is going on? I’m sure they’ve had cheese in before!

100% with the cheese. That is the 'melt' as you say.

Bloody delicious they are too!

anunlikelyseahorse · 27/05/2024 22:10

If there is no cheese what are they melting? I mean if the tuna is melting, sounds like it's deliquescing 🤢.

YABU for making a word that’s already plural (panini) extra plural by adding an S.

Panino - singular
Panini - plural

Means sandwich. And that concludes our Italian lesson.

Yes - however when a word is imported into another language you usually end up following the grammatical rules of that language. Same for Italian actually, people will say "le t-shirts" and not "le t-shirts", "i computer" and not "i computers".
Language complaints aside, a tuna melt definitely needs cheese!

Emmadaily · 27/05/2024 22:35

Now I really want ( need) a tuna melt with cheese of course mmmm.

Local sandwich bar does ----

Panini's Shock

Does my head in.

Panini (singular) is fine in English imo. Panini's is not! And yes, tuna melt definitely needs cheese although dh has started using it to describe a COLD tuna sandwich - shudders.

ChessieFL · 13/07/2024 16:30

There definitely should be cheese in a tuna melt! That is my panini/toastie of choice and I would be very annoyed for it to be served without cheese.

Funny you should talk about cultural insults while strutting about a name like that... 🙄

JohnTheRevelator · 13/07/2024 16:38

There should definitely be cheese. Where did get this monstrosity from?! The last couple of tuna melt paninis I've bought from Cafe Nero and Costa have had cheese in.

Danceswithweasels · 13/07/2024 16:42

Definitely cheese needed, otherwise it's just a sweaty staleTuna roll (aka 1970s school trip packed lunch), preferably chilli in the tuna also please.

SmudgeButt · 13/07/2024 17:00

Can you put a bit of onion in mine too please?

TheLastTrainForTheCoast · 13/07/2024 17:06

So Panini is plural? So I can ask for three tuna melt (and check they have cheese) panini.

Didn't know that.

Do know to ask for three gins and tonics.

Chartreux · 13/07/2024 17:17

Which venues serve this abomination? We need to know so we can avoid them.

AnnieMcFanny · 13/07/2024 17:23

I was once served one straight from the fridge and when I asked for it to be warmed up i was told but this is the way we serve them. I then said but it’s supposed to be served warm and the clue is in the name - it’s tuna melt. And that was when I was asked if I’d like a steak pie instead. 🤣
