To wonder why it matters if someone is a long term poster and why they have to declare it?

On another recent thread;

So long-term poster, (name change here for privacy but imagine nice ham: school run dress et cetera. )

Why do we need to know that?

People say it to try and prove that they’ve been on the site a long time and that they aren’t trolls. But it’s completely pointless really as trolls can still search the site and find popular threads so I don’t really know why anyone bothers to point it out anymore

TwattyMcFuckFace · 26/05/2024 11:21

We don't, it's ridiculous but people do it to try to 'prove' they're not a troll, which is ridiculous in itself because it's exactly the sort of thing trolls say 😁

Also we don't need...

"Long time lurker but finally plucked up the courage to make an account".

Courage? This is an anonymous online forum, no-one can type you to death.

To stop the weirdos who search previous posts and when they can't find them accuse them of being a troll

AFmammaG · 26/05/2024 11:37

no-one can type you to death
😆

I think they do it to avoid being called a troll.

MonsteraMama · 26/05/2024 11:39

Because there are a lot of trolls on Mumsnet who post bullshit ragebait posts to then repost on the Mumsnet Trolls subreddit so they can group wank over how they made the mum's angry and how clever they are.

On a potentially controversial or divisive post people often have to specify they've been here a while so they don't get accused of being one of these absolute sad sacks.

ArchaeoSpy · 26/05/2024 11:40

because youll get some on here that dont believe it or presume its just a bun fight etc
