In case it upsets Scotland

Ffs! Have we actually become this divided and petty that we're going to get angry at an English man for supporting his country during a football tournament?! I'm sick of it

No adult male should be wearing a football shirt unless they are actually playing in a match.

So from a style perspective, I entirely agree with Keir not wearing an England football shirt.

Would get my vote. Perhaps one of them could put this in their manifesto?

Why on earth not? Absolute nonsense.

I don't find the game shirts that comfortable but wear the training tops all the time at the gym, as a 48 year old woman!

The England women's shorts I find a superb cut and fit for the gym or running.

Edited

Adult women can wear them, we look great in everything.

When I am king of the world, I may allow football shirts to be worn by men at the gym or during other exercise than just playing football as a kind gesture.

But not if they aren't actually playing sport.

Wales are often a more interesting team to watch tbf. I often support Wales in the six nations and I’ve never even been to Wales (always a bit torn in an England/Wales match, but at least in those matches I don’t really mind who wins).

I have no problem with people support Wales who aren't from here/haven't been - not in the slightest. It's this faux royal thing that I object to. On a good day we can be very exciting to watch - but I do apologise for recent poor performance, it has been painful! We can only go up from here!!

Another bullshit story … the Right-Wing are clutching at straws. Luckily this sort of thing only really bothers your “little Englander” Reform party types, who won’t be voting for him anyway.

It’s the kind of nonesense story that Joe Lycett was planting in the press, to show his easy it is to spread a lie

It bothered Emily Thornberry when she saw a St George’s cross that time.

Maddy70 · 26/05/2024 16:13

No he hasnt. Typical daily mail

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 26/05/2024 16:16

Yes because Scotland has just one singular mind and personality that we all share so it’s very easy to offend the entire country with one act.

Back in the real world I’m Scottish and no one would bat an eyelid.

MorrisZapp · 26/05/2024 16:32

The only politician I can remember wearing a football shirt was David thingy who caused a shagging scandal then had his tory wife nodding beside him at his garden gate.

Oh what was his name he was the ugliest little man and the woman was quite attractive but him talking about his football bleurgh !

Mrsjayy · 26/05/2024 16:37

Football shirt* was it David Mellor? All the tory wives just smiled and nodded when the sleazy scandals broke

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/05/2024 16:40

Anyone who can't spell Keir Starmer's first name is being unreasonable. It's four letters so not a tricky one.

bluetopazlove · 26/05/2024 16:41

This sounds like it came from The Sun . Do you pay attention to batshit stuff you an read about mp's .

Xenia · 26/05/2024 16:43

Presumably he is going for man of the people thing by wearing this kind of shirt, although it is more the kmind of thing a teenager would wear and the UK still to an extent has the rugby/football class divide but he will want to be man of the people into football.

GentlemanJohnny · 26/05/2024 17:14

I call bullshit.

stuckdownahole · 26/05/2024 17:37

I think Starmer is a genuine football fan, not a pretend one like David Cameron who couldn't remember which team he allegedly supported.

What always surprised me was that Jeremy Corbyn was also a genuine Arsenal fan who went to their home matches. It just didn't fit with his teetotal beardy vegetarian vibe. No way he would have been seen in an England shirt though, way too imperialist.

I will be sure to do that. 😀

It's the SNP that he's mainly contesting with - and that's exactly the sort of pettiness they love to incite.

It's the Daily Mail doing its usual and you're falling for it hook, line and sinker

No menti

Who are you angry at?

It is quite tricky, because it is an uncommon name and many words are i-e.

It is very rude to criticise people's spelling, that is far worse than making a spelling mistake.

Hedgeoffressian · 13/07/2024 21:15

England are in the final. Let the man wear his England shirt with pride FFS 🙄

I think its politically safer for him to wear it now, and don't think anyone would bat an eyelid.

I do think it would have been a little politically riskier to wear one, pre-election, at a time when Scotland were still in tne Euros and trying to win seats from the SNP.

Sidandnance · 13/07/2024 21:23

Men wearing football shirts is not for me. The PM? No.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/07/2024 21:26

KEIR!!!

He's the bloody PM. If you're going to spout bollocks, at least spell it correctly.

houseonthehill · 13/07/2024 21:41

“These days, if you say you’re English, you get arrested and thrown in jail…”

AzureAnt · 13/07/2024 21:41

Who would tell him not to wear an England shirt? He's the prime minister he can wear waht he wants and seriously who gives a shit if Scotland are upset? 🤣

5128gap · 13/07/2024 22:02

I don't even see the logic of potentially offending the Scots. If it was England v Scotland I could see why he should show impartiality but why should Scotland care if he supports England over Spain?
