In case it upsets Scotland

Ffs! Have we actually become this divided and petty that we're going to get angry at an English man for supporting his country during a football tournament?! I'm sick of it

OP posts:
Misthios · 26/05/2024 09:30

It's the SNP that he's mainly contesting with - and that's exactly the sort of pettiness they love to incite.

Exactly.

Onda · 26/05/2024 09:35

I don't think the SNP have even mentioned this?
I can't see any sources for it at all, although I see a pp found a DM article. It would seem to be the DM who are trying to cause a ruckus over nothing.

Mrsjayy · 26/05/2024 09:39

SNP have said nothing tbf we have just got a new FM they probably have other things to worry about than Daily Mail pish.

Broxigirl · 26/05/2024 09:41

As a Scot I know not one Scottish person who this would bother.

tiggergoesbounce · 26/05/2024 10:15

More people sucked in by daily mail b*llocks. I thought people had got wise to these lies.

Americano75 · 26/05/2024 10:28

Bit late for an April Fool's isn't it?

AgnesX · 26/05/2024 10:31

Personally I couldn't care less what football shirt he wears (is he even going to). If he's English then why not.

No he hasn't

Christ, it's not the bloody Euros again is it.

My only interest in it extends to whether they'll move the time slot of Gardeners World again.

Personally

if he is there as a fan (even if he got the ticket because of his position) then wear the shirt of the team he supports

if he is there in an official capacity, ie as prime minister (I think election is before the final), then I would go more neutral as that position represents more than one country

A football top isn't related to the government at all - it's a man supporting his country at a sports tournament

It’s not ‘a man’ it’s the future PM of a 4 nation country. So YABU to be so naive as to think it doesn’t matter …

Thegreatergoodgerald · 26/05/2024 11:40

Is he even a fan though? Or would he be like Sunak, trying to be ‘normal’ despite being a billionaire who is about as far removed from a WC sport like football as you can get??

LlynTegid · 26/05/2024 11:45

Grown men in football shirts other than maybe at a game looks awful. I am Welsh and recognise that Keir Starmer is English and will support his country of birth and residence.

Notellinganyone · 26/05/2024 11:45

Keir.

MojoMoon · 26/05/2024 11:49

No adult male should be wearing a football shirt unless they are actually playing in a match.

So from a style perspective, I entirely agree with Keir not wearing an England football shirt.

Starmer is a genuine football fan (Arsenal) who plays five aside football regularly. There are a lot of photos of him doing so PLUS my exclusive revelation that I once saw him play football. As a non expert, I would say he seemed a reasonable player in a match of of middle aged men.

He was wearing a regular t-shirt and not a football shirt during in the match as well.

WithACatLikeTread · 26/05/2024 11:56

If it is official capacity a suit is best. However I hope he would cheer his head off if England beat the Scots. 🎉😉

shearwater2 · 26/05/2024 11:57

Sounds like absolute nonsense to me. And if anyone really said it, it doesn't mean Starmer would carry out their suggestion.

Though I wouldn't give a shit if he wore a France shirt tbh.

Arsenal. Poor bloke.

Why on earth not? Absolute nonsense.

I don't find the game shirts that comfortable but wear the training tops all the time at the gym, as a 48 year old woman!

The England women's shorts I find a superb cut and fit for the gym or running.

Football tops look bloody awful on most people, especially plump men over a certain age, so that seems sensible.”

This, 💯! Also, bit of unsolicited advice, Keir: don’t get suckered into being filmed playing football with school children. Never goes well ….

BuyOrBake · 26/05/2024 09:27

I'm Welsh.

I think it's totally reasonable for Kier to wear an England shirt to support his team if he wants to.

What would upset me is seeing him wear a Welsh one🤣

Edited

Hahahahaha! 😂Me too!

Reminds me of when Prince William said he was supporting both England and Wales at the Football World Cup, but favoured Wales over England in the rugby.

No you don't! You're living up to that ridiculous title that should have been retired a long time ago. Wear the rose, wear the lions, see if I care! I don't!

shearwater2 · 26/05/2024 12:09

The women's training tops look bloody great on me, but you'll have to take my word for it 😂

Wales are often a more interesting team to watch tbf. I often support Wales in the six nations and I’ve never even been to Wales (always a bit torn in an England/Wales match, but at least in those matches I don’t really mind who wins).
