That's it.

Excuse typo in title. One handed and on codeine.

There is at least a separate thread for stuff about the election - so you can hide that thread if you want. And report any threads that have been posted elsewhere, so they get moved.

TheDandyLion · 24/05/2024 19:40

The codine should make it easier to cope.

RoseAndRose · 24/05/2024 19:40

If you mean the GE, then it's your own silly fault for starting a thread in AIBU rather than in the topic.

If people use the topic, it means others can "hide" it from their Active, and just go and look at what's happening in there when they want to.

MNHQ have said they will move threads started in other topics.

Not sure what else you're expecting

TeaKitten · 24/05/2024 19:41

You’re part of the problem here OP. Hide the topic if you don’t like it and don’t start threads on it on other boards and itl be fine.

Thingscanonlygetsunk · 24/05/2024 19:42

I'm more worried about the 6months after 4th July.

How are we going to cope?

CaveMum · 24/05/2024 19:44

Like it or not, a General Election affects everyone in the UK- even if you don’t plan on voting.

I’d rather people talked/argued over politics than the alternative - apathy.

5128gap · 24/05/2024 19:47

Totally. If i see one more thread in style and beauty about which dress is best for an evening guest, I think I'm going to scream. Can't wait for the wedding season to be over. Though I think 6 weeks is optimistic..? Only takes us until July.

RoseAndRose · 24/05/2024 19:54

Until July takes us more or less to the end of term.

So sports-day bashing threads, exams, prom dresses and prom excesses

veryblunt · 24/05/2024 19:55

Its unbearable at the best of times.

On what planet could you possibly think that Labour could do anything more cruel, ineffective, divisive and downright harmful to our economy, and the country, and all the people who live here, than the Tories have done over the last 14 years?

Meadowfinch · 24/05/2024 20:10

Are we talking elections or exams and proms ?

Because I've already had my fizz over the election. No point in repeating myself.

GCSEs in our house will be over in three weeks and I've already paid for DS' prom suit.

Time to enjoy the slightly warmer weather. 😊

Followed by six weeks of the summer school holidays being too long and isn't it time the kids went back...

HappyAutumnFields · 24/05/2024 20:13

Yeah, democracy’s a real fucker.

Blackcats7 · 24/05/2024 20:14

I have to keep nipping over to Gardening or the Litter Tray for a bit of sanity in the face of all the end of the world is nigh threads

I read that as cocaine. 😬😳🤣

Codeine makes me feel sea sick while sitting still on the sofa, so I hope you're not too spaced out.

NuffSaidSam · 24/05/2024 20:18

Just avoid any threads that don't appeal to you. It's easy enough.

I think that one is fair enough on Mumsnet surely? If you can't moan about your kids being annoying here, where can you?!

Exasperatednow · 24/05/2024 21:58

It's the catastrophising.

But I find having discolated (it's back in but worse than child birth pain) and fractured my shoulder (and no available ambulance) has made me a bit grumpy.

YANBU. Someone recently told me that the Conservatives employ people to post topics attacking Labour and promoting their party on certain websites, and Mumsnet is one of them. One of the requirements is to include something disparaging Labour in the thread title itself so that even if people don't read the threads, the titles themselves will still be seen by thousands and and still have impact.

I'm already extremely tired of them and it's only been 48 hours since the announcement.

Not surprised by that. Only that it's taken so long for them to catch up with what the other parties have been doing for yonks.

That's one reason why I'm glad the astroturf is to be (largely) confined to one topic

RobertaFirmino · 24/05/2024 22:24

Don't get disheartened, summer is coming and the countless GE threads will be interspersed with 'Do I really have to pay to book seats if I have children?' and 'This weather is unbearable, I can't wait for cosy hot choc'.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking only the Tories are doing this. ALL the political parties of every persuasion manipulate social media, etc to their own ends. There are companies out there that offer up their services to individual candidates (Rory Stewart has talked about being approached by such a company when he was running as an Independent for London Mayor) and you can sure as heck expect them to be offering up their services to the parties as a whole.

Ultimately it is incumbent on us as voters to apply critical thinking and not just believe everything we read/see.

Don't worry, six months should give Labour enough time to make a few changes at least that will start to improve things. It's nearly over.
