That's it.

Don't worry, six months should give Labour enough time to make a few changes at least that will start to improve things. It's nearly over.

Forgive me. I know that, maybe I wasn't clear enough.
I was worried that 6 months of laughing at the remnants of the Tory party might not be good for us.

Anyway is Sunak announcing he is stepping down today?

They're sticking to the Tories' spending plans. What are they going to change?

This seems to be a thread for the politically apathetic - plenty of other threads to be boring about Saint Keir

YANBU. Someone recently told me that the Conservatives employ people to post topics attacking Labour and promoting their party on certain websites, and Mumsnet is one of them. One of the requirements is to include something disparaging Labour in the thread title itself so that even if people don't read the threads, the titles themselves will still be seen by thousands and and still have impact.

I'm already extremely tired of them and it's only been 48 hours since the announcement.

Someone told you? Someone who commissions this work or does this work or writes the contracts?

Dear Lord. We have enough of a problem with being trolled 18 years old boys with mummy issues without someone actually paying them to come here.

BobnLen · 25/05/2024 08:16

Not just the election, we also have the impending apocalypse

Probably in a post on here, as it gets trotted out regularly. It seems that almost anyone who expresses a positive opinion about any single Tory policy / politician, gets called out as either a bot or working for the Tories.

LlynTegid · 25/05/2024 08:30

You have the option not to log on or read for the next few weeks if you do not want to discuss politics. I respect anyone who does not wish to talk about politics.

Please vote on July 4th though.

It's not so much a matter of discussing polictics with members of the forum, it is that normal debate here is disrupted by political machines abusing the site for party political ends.

BIWI · 25/05/2024 10:25

... and it's not just Conservative HQ who do this, I'm sure.

Exasperatednow · 25/05/2024 15:46

I'm not politically apathetic. Quite the opposite. I will vote. Already sorted postal vote as will be away.

What I find difficult is the clearly paid for posts and the lack of sensible debate. The next PM doesn't need to be perfect just competent would be good.

I did say I was grumpy. Waiting for over 2 hours for a non existent ambulance in a middle of a city centre and then having to find a way to a&e with a fractured dislocated shoulder tends to do that to you.

I would just like people to think of the bigger picture and getting the country working.

I’d quite like to see an S&B thread on what to wear for Armageddon

ArchaeoSpy · 26/05/2024 12:38

well if people want a better country and to be more upto date about politics etc then surley having civil debates helps this ?

but various forms of marketing and public relations has always existed even in the days of Edward Berneys public relations etc

Yes, dear god, it's depressing how low they will go.

Recent example: the rich people won't be able to afford VAT on their school fees and will take your DC's state school place instead and your DC won't be able to get into state school anymore...

I think both parties do this.

Just hide the GE board if you don’t want to see it and stop posting about it on other boards.

Yes, but in fairness, there’s a strong streak of lower-middle-class aspirational Toryism on Mn. You always know them on private school threads because they’re the ones trying to argue that they’re doing everyone else a favour by not taking up places in state schools and who then produce the ‘Well, you all just move to a better area for good state schools, thereby pushing up house prices!’ as some kind of ‘gotcha!’

I mean, I’d love to think they were Torybots, but alas, some are real.

And you seriously think only Tories do this?
Dear God, the lack of critical thought and inability to see anything negative about Labour astounds me sometimes on here.
Can I also enquire what you mean by 'the rich'. I have asked this question every time I see 'the rich' mentioned but I have never had a response.
£50k salaries, 100k, 1m?? £20k more than you earn?
I am curious because 'the rich' seem to be objects of derision yet are expected to fund endless spending under MN's new Labour dawn

I'm more worried about the 6months after 4th July.

How are we going to cope?

On what planet could you possibly think that Labour could do anything more cruel, ineffective, divisive and downright harmful to our economy, and the country, and all the people who live here, than the Tories have done over the last 14 years?

Ah, but by taxing the rich .. thing would happen

Katypp · 26/05/2024 14:07

Anyone care to define 'the rich', who will pay for all of the lovely things people think Labour stand for?
I first asked about three weeks ago but alas have has no takers so far

BIWI · 26/05/2024 14:25

Well, basically, if you earn more than £75K (before tax) you will be in the top 5% of earners. So relatively speaking, that must count as rich.

However - as I'm sure you know - it's impossible to be more specific than that, because everyone will have different disposable incomes - mortgage, child care, car(s) etc.

CaveMum · 24/05/2024 19:44

Like it or not, a General Election affects everyone in the UK- even if you don’t plan on voting.

I’d rather people talked/argued over politics than the alternative - apathy.

Very difficult to get enthusiastic when you see the list of dead beats standing in our area.

Demonhunter · 26/05/2024 14:28

If people like you post on AIBU instead of the GE board yes it will. I read this for real AIBU questions and the GE board for election discussions 🤷‍♀️
