Generic reference from NHS worry

I worked for the NHS about 4 years ago. I have been offered another job who have contacted NHS for a generic reference. No issues when I worked for them.

Have checked email address is correct and HR have kindly prompted them to provide a reference.

How long is too long to wait for a reference? It has been about 10 days and no indication how long it will take as no reply from email address.

Nothing about the NHS employment process is swift! Took at least 3 weeks for my reference when I moved Trust iirc.
