To think this elderly woman did nothing wrong?

Apparently that was the 3rd time the older woman had approached her baby

AIBU not to see a problem?

I shared this in a group chat via WhatsApp and a few mums have commented 'yeah I won't lie, I don't like randomers in my baby's face! That's why I have my 'Please look and don't touch sign'

I said but she didn't touch her? I've been ignored!

I imagine that the telling off was for "likes" and "hearts instagram validation and all that .

I can’t see what she did wrong, but she looks early fifties, on what planet is that elderly.

I once inadvertently overstepped the mark with a parent I think. I was walking toward a particular shop when my eye was caught by a Mum and, I guess, a child of about 8 months or so n her arms.

The child was really arresting and beautiful. As I passed I stopped and said to Mum, your child is gorgeous. I didn't try to touch the child, but the mum changed the arm the baby was resting in and turned her back to me.

I got the message and backed off pdq. Sad, really. For all three of us.

How bizarre. But I’ve experienced similar. I just think they’re unsocialised and strange.

She said that she spoke to the lady the first 2 times and her sister spoke to her the 3rd time.

I think once is lovely. A second time ok. But a third time? I'd find it quite rude that she kept interrupting my lunch and it would make me feel uncomfortable.

Exactly. Approaching 3 times is imposing on someone and quite entitled.

I usually get annoyed at the threads where parents are fuming at someone smiling at their PBF, but 3 times is de trop.

And?

It’s weird. No one wants to see you eating. Get off your bloody phone, eat your food and look after your baby. Fucking attention seekers get right on my nerves 😡

Blondiebeachbabe · 24/05/2024 17:34

Old lady could have taken the baby off the train/bus, and that idiot would be none the wiser. Why isn't she watching her baby? I dread to think how today's babies are actually going to learn social skills, when their parents seem to have their heads stuck in a phone all the time. I see mums pushing buggies, and they don't make any eye contact with the baby, just constant scrolling. It's horrendous.

It is life now and it's sad !

SophieJo · 24/05/2024 17:42

I don’t see anything wrong with the lady. She probably thought the same as I did that the mother was more concerned about filming herself eating than interacting with her child.

Presumably her followers do. Calm down.

pinkzebra02 · 24/05/2024 18:44

I would take anything someone who films themselves while eating says with a large pinch of salt, personally.

pinkzebra02 · 24/05/2024 18:47

She is probably jealous that her baby got attention just for being awake whereas she has to go through the effort of filming herself earing while making snide comments and sharing it on social media.

Perhaps you need to go outside and touch some grass or something.

Perhaps you need to step outside the tired social media cliches and actually say something real.

CammyChameleon · 25/05/2024 01:38

I like it when strangers interact kindly with my kids, always have done? One time I felt it was a bit odd was when an elderly nun kissed DS1 on the cheek while he was strapped to my chest, but that's about it really.

I interact with random kids as well, wave and say hello to little babies, say "you're doing great" to a kid learning to ride a bike with their parent, "oh cool a Spiderman t-shirt, my little boy likes him too" etc.

Your kids are part of society now, let them enjoy the good parts of it.
