To think this elderly woman did nothing wrong?

Apparently that was the 3rd time the older woman had approached her baby

AIBU not to see a problem?

I shared this in a group chat via WhatsApp and a few mums have commented 'yeah I won't lie, I don't like randomers in my baby's face! That's why I have my 'Please look and don't touch sign'

I said but she didn't touch her? I've been ignored!

Reading the comments she didn't actually "approach" three times....

She spoke to them twice in other parts of the restaurant (I'm guessing maybe at the counter, self serve?) and both times the baby was asleep.

The third time she was clearly just passing on the way to the door and she says "ooh she's awake!"

I don't think the lady did anything wrong.

Filming yourself eating though...... bizarre - the whole thing just screams "give me attention!"

PianPianPiano · 23/05/2024 21:51

Wait, people have actual signs telling people not to touch their babies?!

Yes. I'm in a WhatsApp group with one, and queue at a gate every date with another one!

Why is she filming herself stuffing her face ?
and that Women is not old 🧓

Fizbosshoes · 23/05/2024 22:30

I'm not seeing a problem with what the (background) woman did? It didn't look like she touched the baby?
I would absolutely hate to watch/film myself eating though!

LizardOfOz · 23/05/2024 22:31

The scraping of the fork with her teeth 🤢

TwattyMcFuckFace · 23/05/2024 21:57

Could be absolute bollocks though and just said because so many people said how rude she was.

I'm also laughing at 'I had to contain myself'.

She was more busy showing the world how to eat like you're chewing cud.

Well, yes, but anything could be bollocks. You do hear the sister speaks to the lady.

But yeah, I'm commenting on if it happened like she said and it really was the 3rd time the lady interrupted them.

Port1aCastis · 23/05/2024 22:35

Posting bollocks on Instagram seems to be more important than interacting with baby. Strange attention seeking woman filming herself eating comes over as shallow and odd, look at meeeee should be her motto

Fleamaker · 23/05/2024 22:39

Just plain nasty and very immature.

TabithaTimeTurner · 23/05/2024 21:36

I could see nothing wrong with that. The woman seems to be interacting more with her baby than the mother who’s too busy filming herself eating 😳

This.

Growlybear83 · 23/05/2024 23:35

I would normally find it very irritating if someone came up and started speaking to someone else's baby but as the woman in the video didn't do much as look at her baby throughout her video, let alone talk to it, then I think it was quite possibly the best interaction the poor baby had the whole day.

And the other women in the video is NOT elderly!

Jitterybugs · 23/05/2024 23:46

People actually order food, set up their camera and film themselves shovelling it in? Then post it online for comments?? I honestly didn’t know that was a thing.

maddening · 23/05/2024 23:56

Who the fuck videos themselves eating!

Ihopeithinkiknow · 24/05/2024 00:11

Her rolling her eyes at the "weird woman" talking to her baby all while she sits there filming herself eating lol I know all this Instagram bollocks goes to peoples heads but fucking hell lol do something interesting at least 🤨 if I wanted to sit across from someone while they rolled their eyes at me while we ate food then I would just go to my mums house for dinner lol

BadeballSkihipto · 24/05/2024 00:20

They are still smart ladies.

Who are? The woman ignoring her baby and the one filming her eating? 😂🤣😆😂😂

Wickedlywearynamechanged · 24/05/2024 00:29

The caption explains what went before. This is the 3rd time the stranger woman interacted with the baby in the cafe. Greeting and cooing over someone else’s baby 3 times on one occasion is over the top. The mum has been pleasant to the woman twice already. The mum was polite imo.

anyway, I’d advise going back and reading the caption and it changes the whole context.

utilitarianism · 24/05/2024 00:51

I'm not the type to stop and coo at some random baby, but that mother is definitely the weirdo in this scenario. Why is she filming herself eating??? She's there with her baby and a friend (?) and yet she's performing for the camera rather than behaving like a normal person. Who's watching her eat, or is it for her own use? 'Ah, time to unwind at the end of a busy day! I just can't wait to relive last week's lunch at that fantastic new place that serves massive salads!'

Did you read the caption on the instagram video?

it changes the whole scenario.

Did you actually read my post in full?

This strange woman did not do this once. She interrupted this woman’s outing 3 times to coo over this baby.

How many times do you think it’s okay to interrupt a person’s meal because you want to coo over their baby?

SoupDragon · 24/05/2024 08:49

That's why I have my 'Please look and don't touch sign'

WTF?! The world has gone mad. I don't know if that or the filming yourself eating is weirdest.

KarenOH · 24/05/2024 08:53

This was the third time the woman approached. I dont have a problem with someone talking to my child, I have a problem with my lunch being interupted THREE times.

RampantKrampus · 24/05/2024 08:53

Honestly, this is why I worry about chatting to
someone’s toddler in a shop, or making faces at a baby in a queue. 😐 Apparently being nice is awful now.

Bearbookagainandagain · 24/05/2024 08:53

Whoever decides to proactively interact with strangers in a public place has to accept their attempt might be rejected. The mum hasn't asked anything and is minding her own business, getting interrupted 3 times by a random stranger is a pain - it doesn't matter what their reason is. She doesn't owe her anything, and has already responded politely twice, that's more than enough.

IncompleteSenten · 24/05/2024 08:56

That is a perfectly normal interaction imo.

I think it's important that babies get a lot of interaction. There's no harm in people taking a moment to talk and smile.

My kids made a fortune because they were born back when it was very common for people to put a coin into your baby's hand for good luck. Of course I took it straight out of their hand for safety, thanked the giver and had a little chat about my babies. It was nice.

They paid for every coffee I had for about three years. 😁

Does that tradition still happen by the way?

It was over 20 years ago and only older people doing it even back then so maybe it's gone now and you all have to pay for your own coffees 😁

Social media makes ignoramuses think they're far more important than they are.
