To think this elderly woman did nothing wrong?

Apparently that was the 3rd time the older woman had approached her baby

AIBU not to see a problem?

I shared this in a group chat via WhatsApp and a few mums have commented 'yeah I won't lie, I don't like randomers in my baby's face! That's why I have my 'Please look and don't touch sign'

I said but she didn't touch her? I've been ignored!

If I was filming myself eating my beans and toast to share with my adoring fans I’d be fucking raging if someone interrupted me. I wonder if she takes a clapperboard to the restaurants.

To think this elderly woman did nothing wrong?
WimpoleHat · 24/05/2024 09:11

There was a thread earlier in the week about a woman being furious because someone hadn’t interacted with her baby in the library! People can’t win….

Westfacing · 24/05/2024 09:17

OP the woman is not elderly!

Poor woman was just interacting with the child as she was approaching the door to leave - an everyday action, or should be.

She was more busy showing the world how to eat like you're chewing cud. Grin

Fizbosshoes · 24/05/2024 09:19

Being a pedant, since the woman making the video doesn't appear to be talking/interacting with the baby and the (allegedly) elderly woman isnt interacting with the mum/instagrammer herself...then is her lunch actually interrupted?? There's just some random person in the background of her video - which is always a risk if you're in a public place.
(I've seen people filming in parks, carparks and tube stations and getting annoyed at the presence of other people!)

elevens24 · 24/05/2024 09:21

This is a normal interaction from the older lady. In fact it's lovely that people take the time to do it. Babies need interactions. The lady was not remotely close and was just walking by. The mum looked like a bit of a diva.

If I'm in a queue and there's a baby or small child near me I will always say hello to them and give a little wave.

They are still smart ladies.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

And OP that women isn't "elderly"

KimberleyClark · 24/05/2024 09:28

This is Mumsnet. Anyone over 45 is elderly.

All of this.

That mum looks so upright and rude. Argh

There was nothing wrong with what she did in this case.

It bought up a cringey memory though of when my daughter was about 18 months old.

This slender little old lady leaned into my daughter pushchair to say hello, and my daughter slapped her across the face. It was embarrassing and obviously I apologised.

It goes to prove, though, that children very much have their own emotions and boundary senses.

The lady came out of nowhere so I didn't have a chance to forewarn her. My daughter couldn't stand people right in her space.

My daughter always has taken herself out of situations when she has had enough as an adult as well as a child. My daughter is now 37..

I'm not sure she's even 45 😂

commonground · 24/05/2024 09:54

I think her baby, her rules. And the blowing the kiss at the end was was not necessary.

But it seems that the baby had just woken up and was smiling and it's very hard to resist a smiley baby - do you ignore them when they grin at you in the supermarket for eg? Or do you smile back? Am confused at the etiquette now.

I shall practice my poker face in the vicinity of any grinning cherub I may encounter in the wild, don't want to get tik-tok shamed - which is where the mum overstepped the mark. She lost the moral high ground when she used her baby in another way - to post the content for visibility and follows.

TabithaTimeTurner · 23/05/2024 21:36

I could see nothing wrong with that. The woman seems to be interacting more with her baby than the mother who’s too busy filming herself eating 😳

Why would anyone want to film themselves stuffing her face full of food? So unattractive.

SammyScrounge · 24/05/2024 10:05

It has been a really warm sunny week and babies are blooming like flowers in their prams. Some of them are giving away free smiles to everyone they pass. It is impossible not to smile back.

Elleherd · 24/05/2024 10:07

Just another self obsessed Insta mum who'll probably be giving a teacher somewhere hell in a few years, when her roolz aren't accepted, if that's what it takes for her to have to 'contain herself.'

And sadly just another ageist MN title - or is that intentional trying to get it more clicks?

TonTonMacoute · 24/05/2024 10:10

Applescruffle · 23/05/2024 21:41

Noone wants to talk to each other any more or have any interaction unless its via a screen. Its sad.

This.

I had loads of lovely interactions with people when I was out and about with DS as a baby.

takeonabrew · 24/05/2024 10:18

I'm not sure she's even 45 😂

I am on the spectrum so don't understand sarcasm well. Is that a joke? Blush she's clearly over 45 surely!

Although another look tells me not really 'elderly'.

She looks a lot older than my mum who is mid 50s

TabithaTimeTurner · 24/05/2024 10:26

She looks late 50s to me, either way it’s very definitely not elderly 😆

NigelHarmansNewWife · 24/05/2024 10:33

Some people will take offence at anything these days. The woman doesn't attempt to touch the baby. I can only imagine filming and posting this is for the views. And it worked.

Ok, apologies for questing if the ageism was intentional to get clicks. She's past middle age, but absolutely not 'elderly.'

No I wasn't being sarcastic - maybe just exaggerating a bit for effect 😊

I have watched it a couple of times but after I posted that I watched it again and thought oh actually she does look over 45 😂

But definitely not elderly!

LawlorsNaa · 24/05/2024 11:38

I'm a Nanny to two girls, 5 and 18 months. When I bring the 18 month out older people always stop to talk to her. I think it's lovely and the baby is always full of smiles when they interact with her.

catchthepigeon98 · 24/05/2024 11:42

The mother was too busy watching her self eating and talking to herself I’m surprised she noticed the women talking to her baby

TammyJones · 24/05/2024 11:45

Riversideandrelax · 23/05/2024 21:41

Not the point...but the woman wasn't elderly!

Edited

That's what I was thinking lol

Wickedlywearynamechanged · 24/05/2024 08:45

Did you read the caption on the instagram video?

it changes the whole scenario.

Did you actually read my post in full?

This strange woman did not do this once. She interrupted this woman’s outing 3 times to coo over this baby.

How many times do you think it’s okay to interrupt a person’s meal because you want to coo over their baby?

Didn’t stop her eating or more importantly filming herself. She was interacting with the baby.

FrenchandSaunders · 24/05/2024 11:51

Silly mare, she’s made herself look like an idiot. And who films themselves shovelling food in their gobs like that 🤮

I’ve got twins and the attention they got as babies/toddlers was off the scale but I wouldn’t have behaved like that!
