to want to go through dd's books with a big black marker pen crossing out the word 'jungle' and replacing it with 'savannah'?

Lions don't live in the jungle.

don't worry...I feel the same and also
PENGUINS AND POLAR BEARS DO NOT LIVE IN THE SAME PLACE!
I yell this so often at TV and books that DD also yells it by instinct.
That one REALLY gets to me.

twirlymum · 04/04/2008 21:17

dd's teacher wrote a note in her contact book. There was a spelling mistake, and I had to stop myself from getting a red pen and correcting it. Don't think dd would have been impressed...

mollymawk · 04/04/2008 21:19

Ooh yes YANBU. And the penguin/polar bear thing - I totally agree.

Although there are a few lions in India. But I would say they live in a forest rather than a jungle.

MsHighwater · 04/04/2008 21:39

Well, I just read a story to my dd tonight which had a penguin delivering mail to bears, bees, cats and a star who all live at the North Pole.

I hope she knows it's just a story!

Miggsie · 04/04/2008 21:43

I got DD the "Animal" book published by Dorling Kindersley.
It's bloody fantastic and she leafs through it, fascinated.
She now points out errors in the picture books.
And asks why Puss in Boots has boots, as cat's don't wear clothes!
That's my girl!

twirlymum · 04/04/2008 21:52

My dd used to ask why Maisy Mouse was never eaten by her friend the crocodile.

pedilia · 04/04/2008 22:05

Oh you lot really are spoilsports

georgiemama · 05/04/2008 07:31

I'm right with you, lions do not live in the effing jungle. DS has a lovely lion book however with realistic roaring noise (really quite scary actually) and in it the lions clearly live in savannah not jungle, so I like that book.

kayzisexpecting · 05/04/2008 07:46

My dh does the same. He always tells ds that lions live in the Savannah and not jungles. But my neice thinks all Lions and Tigers live at Flamingo Land and refuses to believe they live anywhere else.

twentypence · 05/04/2008 07:48

Only ever had tigers in the jungle here from memory. Lions didn't seem to live anywhere.

Freckle · 05/04/2008 07:58

Well it's a universal misconception that the lion is the king of the jungle so I think a lot of these books just carry that on.

Shouldn't this thread be in pedants' corner?

Lizzer · 05/04/2008 08:06

YANBU but it probably won't harm her general education too much

MrsTittleMouse · 05/04/2008 08:08

Not at all. DD has a lovely picture book that has an animal labelled "seal". It has earflaps and is up on it's flippers, so it's obviously a sea lion and it drives me nuts! We also have the polar bear/penguin thing. DD has a lovely M and S book about a penguin building a snow den with a seal, a polar bear and a fox. Maybe I should write to them and point out that the reason why there are penguins nesting at the south pole is because There Are No Land Predators!!!
