AIBU To ask for top suggestions to protect apps on my iPhone being accessed if it's stolen?

I read about how people who are on their phone are being actively targeted by thieves so that the phone is open/password has been entered (also, interestingly, that a lot of thefts take place outside subway stations when people take their phone out to check messages or maps).

I want to try and protect my phone as much as possible. Does anyone have top tips?

  • I store two bank cards in wallet - bad idea?
  • I have my banking app on my phone - password protected
  • Outlook email - can't protect it on iphone
  • Credit card app for transfers and updates but no card and have to put details in manually
  • Air bnb app with card on (and in middle of transactions so can't delete)
  • Other apps but nothing with bank details, I don't think.

Thanks

Have you got the stolen device protection switched on

To stop my kids accessing things on my iPhone I don’t want them to I use screen time so I have to type a code in to unlock apps. Would that work?

Yes! I have screentime lock on my banking apps, it’s for 1 min. Can be annoying but means if stolen the app gets locked and needs a separate screentime password to unlock - you can do the same with your other contentious apps too.

Apple Pay won’t be too problematic as you should get a refund on any spends if they manage to use.

theres a shortcut you can set to require passcode or face id every time a particular app is opened

Yes I have one for outlook. Think it’s Microsoft authenticator. I had to have it on my phone in order to access work emails. I have to put a pin in every time I access my emails.

Banking apps do lock up quite quickly anyway as you only generally have 3 goes before you can't use them, so the chance of putting in the right numbers or passwords is quite remote unless you were actually in your bank app at the time. I have occasionally mistyped and been worried I might lock myself out

That's a great idea. I have an authenticator

I have Stolen Device Protection turned on - but how to check if it's working?

stolen device protection

I did not know this, I’ve followed the instructions and can’t find it. I’m doing a software update to see if that brings it up into my settings. Sounds good.
