Yeah, won't be voting Labour. However, I do believe it will be a landslide victory to the 'reds'!

I remember stopping up all night in 1997 to see the results and the landslide that was New Labour, it will not feel momentous or victorious as it did then.

But, yes kids, here comes your Labour government.

This.

Kalevala · 22/05/2024 19:32

What if you are not in a marginal seat?

The definition of 'a marginal seat' has changed a lot - look up the vote swing achieved by Labour in the last 2 years' worth of byelections. Lib Dems too.

Anything under 15,000 is now a marginal seat for the Tories.

If it's currently labour then what's the chance of that changing?

I'm getting on in years - I remember what a mess they made of the country in the past.

This!

Really were house prices super inflated when labour were in charge? First time buyers can't acctually buy anymore as the deposit they need is so enormous they can't save it. Now you can only buy half a house and still pay rent or a wreck that needs pulling down. Private rents are out of control, a third of people's income is being spent on rents. Its disgusting and they've no plans to change it either, I'm 100% sure of that because they have told me.

Although I'm a traditional Labour supporter, the current Labour manifesto consists of "look over the there, the Tories have done a terrible job. Don't worry we won't make it worse" I've seen nothing absolutely nothing that convinces me Labour are worth the vote

The manifesto hasn’t been published. Nobody’s seen it.

Mummy2024 · 22/05/2024 19:41

BIossomtoes · 22/05/2024 18:26

What’s he backed that the Tories have said or done?

I've also just seen on the news they have copied the conservatives manifesto.... point 100% proven. I'm not even convinced they can win but we will see.

Must be true if it was on the news. Nobody’s seen any manifestos yet. How many more times?

Well I've just seen on the news a presenter who has seen it, saying to a labour mp that their manifesto is a copy of the conservative manifesto. What I'm saying is In the last 2 years kier has brought no hope, no ideas all he does is drone on about how bad the conservatives are and then supported them on numerous things. Labour may win but its not a done deal by any means. We are all deflated I'm not able to buy a house because of the conservatives, but labour arnt going to do anything to fix it.

She was talking to a labour mp 😆 who replied with well we are inheriting a mess so we're limited to what we can do 😆 🤣 😂. I'm no conservative voter I've never voted conservative in my life and that's why I don't want to vote for kier starmer. My town is a labour town anyway so it won't matter what I vote

IClaudine · 22/05/2024 19:50

Well it is good that Labour is being truthful. They have inherited a mess and will be limited in what they can do in their first term.

If they were making wild pledges, they would be criticised for that too. They can't win. Well, they can and will, but you know what I mean.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 22/05/2024 19:51

THANK GOD!

We all been gaslit over the last fourteen years into thinking things aren’t that bad. The very pinnacle of ‘musn’t grumble’. But it is shit!

Whatever Labour do has to be better than this. Sir Keir seems like a steady hand. Might as well give him a whirl that stick with these venal, mendacious con-men.

The education system is on the brink of collapse. We’ve been in despair about next September. I only hope it’s not too late.

Do yourself a favour and realise, there is no such thing as left and right.... only us and them.... a vote for either party is a vote for the conservatives.

Lavengro

Me too. 97 was the first election i ever watched. I was 12 and my dad let me stay up late because he knew it was a big deal. When portillo lost K&C he was practically crying, i didn't fully get it then but I totally do now.

I suspect we’ll see a fair few Portillo moments come the early hours of July 5th.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 22/05/2024 19:54

@boys3 I am very much looking forward to seeing toads like Give loose their seats. In fact, as a teacher, I will happily go canvas for his opposition. He ruined education.

I totally realise that Labour is basically Tory lite, with maybe a few left wing sprinkles. But that is what England is comfortable with, sadly, and the rest of the UK has to put up with that for now. We need PR.

But I still think things will be better eventually with them in charge.

Jeremy corbyn was a true Labour leader, even Blair did more for Britain than the conservatives ever have and he was a centralist. I myself am a centralist but kier is a conservatives and not even going to make a good pm. He's no ideas of his own. I don't want the conservatives to get back in, but I expect my life won't improve under labour. This government have taken away any hope of a decent retirement for me, I probably won't even see my pension, I'll be dead and before that I'll still be paying rent. I'm what you called a disillusioned voter. I work I had dreams and ambitions of owning my own home and having a decent retirement. That's now not going to happen so I do not care who gets in.

I'm absolutely fuming. Poor PM getting soaking wet & some twat playing that loud music. Sometimes I'm so ashamed to be British.
I know that won't go down well with all the Labour lovers here. I'm getting on in years - I remember what a mess they made of the country in the past. And will again.

Omg! Cornflake have you actually seen what the Tories have done since 2010?

So 1997 to 2010 was a disaster was it?

I despair at times. This is delusion.

IClaudine · 22/05/2024 20:07

Yes! Look at the state the NHS was in in 2010. Cancer waiting times were much lower. New cancer drugs were being approved for use on the NHS (£1 billion was being spent on new cancer treatments at one point) leading to much better outcomes. Ambulance and a&e waiting times were low. And there was that stupid Sure Start scheme. Absolute rotters. Thank god the Tories put paid to all that nonsense.
