“Oh dear, i just didn’t know anything about anything that was happening anywhere ever.”
So when the scandal broke in the press back in 2009, she expects the public to believe she knew nothing about it, no one briefed her, no one on the board ever referred to it, she never saw it reported in the news, on the television, or on the radio or in the newspapers?????
Yeah right….

LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR

I only wish god actually did exist because she would be going to hell for her irrefutable sin.

Rocketpants50 · 22/05/2024 14:28

She doesn't recall much!

She said she would answer every question, am not sure saying I don't recall so much is actually answering the question. I wonder what she actually did in her job as she doesn't seem to know what was going on - apparently!

PrincessOlga · 22/05/2024 14:29

Don't remember her crying before today?

It is like the Edinburgh Rape Centre being "saddened" by findings earlier this week.

Who are you crying for? Yourself, I presume?

REP22 · 22/05/2024 14:31

Her tears disgust me. She has had a massive golden parachute whilst innocent people have suffered and even died. Martin Griffiths.

I think any genuine tears will be ones of self-pity. Any shed for the victims will be fewer in number than the amount of individuals whose lives have been damaged by this.

AutumnCrow · 22/05/2024 14:31

We're now onto 'intermittent errors' re-ocurring frequently and remaining unfixed/unfixable. Vennells 'explaining' why she stopped engaging with emails about this and then her memory fails her.

PrincessOlga · 22/05/2024 14:32

PaminaMozart · 22/05/2024 12:54

She started to cry way too early. Should have saved her (fake) tears for the tough questions she doesn't want to answer.

As for "I'm afraid I do not recall"...... who does she think she is - Richard Nixon?!

I think it's called "the Nicola Sturgeon defence".

I propose all politicians or public officials have to take a memory test before assuming office. Then sign a document saying they will pay £1000 towards paying off the national debt for every time they "can't remember" something during a public enquiry.

It's not "Mastermind". You're not answering questions about someone else who lived 500 years ago!

Can someone tell me if she definitely lied?

We ve been watching this in the office since it started. Between this and mumsnet Im not getting a lot done 🤣

However
PV compiled a statement 775pages long (or 725?)

No one as yet seems to have proved she’s lied.
Proving it will be very difficult I think, how can they really prove if she did or didn’t read something if she declares she didn’t or can’t remember. Even when another (forgot who) was caught referring to something that they had declared they hadn’t read, that doesn’t mean they referred to something based on someone just mentioning it.

Unravelling this is a nightmare. Proving culpability even more so.
What we think and what can be proved are two very different things.

She'd still have it on her record though, so it would affect her life in many ways - not least being able to get a job.

Did you see how much she earned in her time with the PO?

I could probably retire tomorrow on it comfortably.

I can tell you now she'll not be worrying about her UC interview.

She had a stab at taking control of the line of questioning, crikey the brass neck of her. Mr Beer having none of it.

Alltheyearround · 22/05/2024 14:41

@EggcornAcorn I think what is so satisfying is seeing someone who lied and ignored the plight of the sub postmasters (a very unequal match of power) meet an adversary who is more than equal to them.

Comeuppance. It has a kind of justice all of its own.

EggcornAcorn · 22/05/2024 14:41

I agree, All.

AutumnCrow · 22/05/2024 14:43

Who's 'Angela'? She's under the bus.

SinnerBoy · 22/05/2024 14:45

I'm sorry, but I don't find it credible that she didn't know that the Post Office do their own Prosecutions. Private Eye mentioned it years ago, when they were the only publication to be reporting it. The amount of stuff she claims not to know is staggering; how did she manage to get and do the job, if it's actually the case?

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 22/05/2024 14:45

Shame they are only verbally putting her on the rack, she really deserve to be tied to the real thing! Disgusting and indicative of the way far too many CEOs etc see staff, treat staff, regard staff. The higher they go, the worse they really seem to get and the less they care!

AutumnCrow · 22/05/2024 14:46

Apparently it was all Angela's fault.

kittykarate · 22/05/2024 14:47

AutumnCrow · 22/05/2024 14:43

Who's 'Angela'? She's under the bus.

Angel Van de Bogerd - who deserves to be under the bus as she was a hard faced liar also.

It's been illuminating to discover that you can earn a fuck ton of money as head of an organisation while apparently not having a clue what's going on in it, or being expected to take responsibility for finding out.

Where do I apply?

Ha ha! Very good 😀

Genevieva · 22/05/2024 14:50

I hope this leads to her being prosecuted and serving time in jail.

Right, and I thought my total lack of interest and engagement in meetings was a limiting factor to a high flying career and yet, here we are, apparently you can rise to the top on a wave of tactical incompetence alone?

Getonwitit · 22/05/2024 14:51

Nicola Sturgeon's sister from another Mother.

Unfortunately, us Proles, who were negligently incautious in our choice of ancestors aren't eligible.

EggcornAcorn · 22/05/2024 14:51

People complaining were just noise. I could weep at the callousness.

Blackcats7 · 22/05/2024 14:52

Let’s remember this woman was given an OBE whilst all of this was in full flight
