yabu

by all means the responsible need to be held to account.
but the jeering at the coverage is cruel.

Damn. Forgot to "be kind".

A memo that didn't reach the PO apparently.

MikeRafone · 22/05/2024 18:25

but the jeering at the coverage is cruel.

it wasn't jeering at the coverage

it was "jeering" at the actions of the woman being questioned.

Time and again these people "in charge" locked people in prison and swore blind they were the only people having issues, this has of course turned nasty as people have taken their own lives, gone bankrupt, lost their homes and all that time the post office sat on their hands - not investigating whether there was actually a problem with the tea they had purchased from horizon.

Mmmnotsure · 22/05/2024 18:26

Wyn Williams is wonderful, the calm way he cuts straight to the heart of the matter.

As for Paula Vennells, tears of self-pity don't quite cut it. There is a very obvious act of atonement available, as her religion will tell her: take all that she has and give the money to the poor (or, in this case, give the blood money from her role at the Post Office to be divided up among the people whose lives she helped to ruin).

likepebblesonabeach · 22/05/2024 18:26

I'm so angry they called the GE today, they knew exactly what they were doing. 26 minutes in to the bbc news at 6 and she hasn't had a mention

No doubt thanking their lucky stars it was some naive honest person who took the rap.
Never in their wildest imaginings thinking that a TV drama would dig up the bodies and lay them out in front of the nation.

I was thinking this too. I’m not excusing Paula Vennells, but why are men in scandals like this never pulled apart in such a fashion?

Look back at some of the videos in the archive.
I've been following this very closely for a long time, and what struck me is how gently she was treated.

And just wait until some of the fabulously talented young female KCs speak to her on friday. Flora Paige is often one to watch.

This has been a long process, and I would say that my lasting impression of this whole thing has been how nice it has been to see grey haired men in suits being absolutely grilled by highly intelligent and articulate young women. You won't see that side of it if you just come in and watch the headline events like Vennels.

ShadesofPoachedSmoke · 22/05/2024 18:33

The biggest hypocrites I have ever had the misfortune to meet have been avid churchgoers.

Absolutely.

She's a scummy lying cunt and should be in prison.

Haven’t RTWT and this has probably been mentioned, but it seems the price to pay in terms of public shaming is higher when it’s a woman who has stuffed up. I’m not denying her dishonesty and cowardice over the whole issue. But who knows the name of the head of Fujitsu, who after all were responsible for the faulty software? Or what he looks like?

I completely agree with this.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 22/05/2024 18:41

I think she came across more sympathetic than Angela.
she at least asked after poor Martin Griffiths family unlike Angela just panicking about brand post office

edited to add she’s still an incompetent arse though

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 22/05/2024 18:41

mrswhiplington · 22/05/2024 18:16

Exactly what I thought. They've timed it perfectly. 😠

I thought that too. She would have been headline news not 2nd or third

JoyousPinkPeer · 22/05/2024 18:45

Mr Beer is phenomenally skilled.

Will the eople responsible, who didn't do their jobs, be punished as they deserve to be? That is the question.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 22/05/2024 18:46

So blood scandal this week. PV at PO enquiry.

And Sunak chooses today to call an election.

Colour me shocked.

Fingeronthebutton · 22/05/2024 18:51

Sausagenbacon · 22/05/2024 11:17

I think she must be shocked to find herself in this situation

These people are never shocked. She might look calm on the surface but her head is saying how dare you ask me these questions. Don’t you know who I am

KTheGrey · 22/05/2024 18:51

porridgecake · 22/05/2024 16:53

Yes. What were they doing? Deliberately creating false deficits, interfering with the accounts? Why would they do that? Just because they could? Surely they would have known that the sub post masters would be blamed.

This is the bit that I just do not understand. It is no different from hacking into someone's lap top or bank account to steal their money.

Guess the buck does stop with Paula tho, because you cannot have "superusers" when the software doesn't create audit trails. Why would you buy software for dealing with accounts if it doesn't record transactions? It's a Casio calculator being uploaded periodically to the Internet. You need accounting software that tracks money in and out. A cashpoint can do it ffs.

I'm developing quite a crush on Jason Beer.

He's sharper than a scalpel, and his low-key delivery belies the seismic nature of his questions.

He is amazing.

So calm, so to the point, so organised in the information he shares or directs others to.

How he carries this out day after day.

He deserves an honour.

His staff were not taking out prosecutions against people though were they? That was fully in the hands of the PO.

Like government cabinet reshuffle Hokey Cokey

US education calls it "the dance of the lemons". You write a glowing reference for your dunderheaded lemon, who duly gets another post, but equally you have to fill their post and.this applicant has fantastic references ... 😆

Lifeomars · 22/05/2024 19:04

Every time I see her or hear her name I remember the terrible suffering of all those wrongly convicted people, especially one poor woman who said that the only reason she did not end her life when she was jailed was because she was pregnant.

MountCaramel · 22/05/2024 19:07

The next ones to watch for cover ups will be the Grenfell and blood contamination scandals.

People died, were imprisoned, including a pregnant woman, people's reputations were destroyed and were financially ruined. Long prison sentences are required for PO management, absolutely disgusting what happened. All done to protect those in charge who held their employees in absolute contempt.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/05/2024 18:09

Well, that's what happens when you let women out of the kitchen. Why do you think we've only had one accidental female PM since Thatcher who lasted less time than a lettuce? Vennells has probably kicked back progress for women in the corporate field by decades, even if it's just on a subconscious level. Oh, the game is afoot mark my words.. ..

I put Theresa May but I was late to.the party! Sorry.

Edited

Whilst absolutely right I'd venture that the fact she got forgotten in that comment speaks to how well that went for Theresa May 🤣

Alltheyearround · 22/05/2024 19:12

SEND system and massive corruption and law breaking investigation on national scale is overdue as well if there are journalists reading? An abundance of material and evidence out here. Children failed and failed and failed again.

Goes right through schools, SLT's, LA's and right up to government in terms of deliberate underfunding of a system which is supposed to give the most vulnerable children the right to a suitable education.

Quirkyme · 22/05/2024 19:15

I was just gonna to say something similar about governments and councils.

Across the board, councils and government-affiliated organisations are corrupt, and individuals from middle management all the way up, are huge drivers of it.

They don't give a fuck, no matter what area they are working in, and they only care about lining their pockets and are absolute liabilities. The higher ups just cover everything up and pay off people with incriminating evidence.

Stay away

Allthehorsesintheworld · 22/05/2024 19:20

Haven’t been able to watch or hear anything except that she was crying.
She didn’t lose her livelihood
or her home
or her savings
or her partner to divorce or suicide
or her freedom being imprisoned

So what did she have to cry about?
Hope he’s put through the wringer.
