Team building days- do you hate them?

Inspire by a thread.
Why is there so much hate about team building days?
I've attended loads and organised some.
Usually they are ok, even fun sometimes but I've been lucky and generally like the people I work with. Some when I don't really like the team have been horrible.
I've got a team building event next week and will be doing everything that everyone seems to hate : travelling on the bank holiday to get there. 6 hours travel time. Staying in a hotel for 2 nights. 2 day team building . Travel 6 hours back.
But I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it'll be fun.
So I guess my aibu
Aibu- team building is ok even fun!
Ainbu- team building is the spawn of the devil and all should be banned!

My old work loved them and did awful shit like making people pick a workshop - choose from Rock choir, painting a tile, a sound bath, yoga or a gym session. I hated half the team and would rather poke my eyes out with a shitty stick than do singing at work. They should just share the money out that they waste on them.

I'm a manger now and totally suggesting the book reading at a nice coffee shop one!

It's the corporate wank that comes with it and stupid games.

Tell me 2 lies and one truth.
Being talked out for hours...
Any role play is repulsive
Being separated from your close team to 'network'

However I have had some great team builds and mainly the get to know each other well is when the drinks start but maybe that's just me. Or the ones they call a team build and have no fun part at all!

Never had one in my 25 years of working!

No way would I travel 6 hours on a bank holiday unless it was on a plane to somewhere decent. They should have found somewhere closer. Who is paying for your travel there and back? It should be optional as building a tunnel using bamboo and guttering doesn’t change the fact that X will still be annoying or incompetent

If you all think that's bad, we have an enforced week away in the autumn. A WEEK! What the hell are we going to do for a whole week? What are people who are single parents for example supposed to do?!
I am a contactor and I'm seriously thinking of quitting before then so I don't have to do it.
I absolutely loathe this whole modern obsession with work as your whole life.
You have to have work related social media (Linkedin), you have to be bringing your whole self to work, and talk about yourself at ice breakers and pretend to be interested in other people's choice of books/film/ what their hidden talents are. Also while tiptoeing around while colleagues moan about JKR's 'transphobia'. (yes this has happened to me). It's just grim. The last three places I've worked at were all like this so clearly that is what loads of workplaces expect now.
