Please help me!

I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago and this is a very very wanted baby. I've gone away for work to NI for the next 4 days and
I've just checked in and realised I've started bleeding. I've had 6 miscarriages and this is exactly how the others started.

I've spoken to the night receptionist and he didn't understand what I was saying, he asked me
If I needed more towels as I said 'I need some
Sanitary towels' he looked so embarrassed when I explained that I really needed some period pads, he said he'd speak to housekeeping but I've gone back to the room and realised that he probably means in the morning.

I have nothing to stem the flow at all's I didn't bring any sanitary towels or tampons.

I've got 4 pairs of pants 2 towels and the dressing gown on the bed but what the fuck do I? Nowhere is open now.

Do I go down to reception and ask for more towels? I'm going to ruin the bed and I just want to go home, tomorrow is going to be spent trying to sort out the meetings I'm here for as I'm a senior member of my organisation and I know I'm having a miscarriage and I will need to go home to seek help for it.

Or do I just apologise in the morning for the state of the bed?

This is so fucking shit

So sorry to read this and please slow down and look after yourself. I still think you should go to a hospital for a scan as it might not be what you think and is worth getting some medical attention. All the very best 💐

You dint need A& E for a possible miscarriage and sanitary towels.

Are you a doctor? Do you work in A & E? If yes, please explain further. If no then what the hell are you doing offering up 'advice' like this?

Auntieobem · 20/05/2024 07:39

Unless op is bleeding v heavily then a&e is not the right place, and she certainly shouldn't be going there to get pads!

Hope you're OK Uteris

MorningSunshineSparkles · 20/05/2024 07:42

I’m so sorry for what you’re doing through Flowers

legendwill · 20/05/2024 07:46

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this difficult situation away from home.

Call reception again and politely but firmly explain it's a medical emergency. Ask them to please find sanitary pads or towels ASAP. Your health is most important here.
Use the dressing gown, towels, extra bedding for now to soak up what you can. Try not to stress which may make bleeding heavier.

In the morning, don't apologize - just explain to housekeeping you need the bedding replaced for medical reasons. Any compassionate person will understand.

See if you can re-schedule meetings and return home sooner for treatment and support. Your health and baby are the priorities now.

Take care of yourself first. Don't worry about the room - just focus on getting help. I hope they're able to assist you properly very soon

That's not what people were saying... They were saying go there if you are bleeding heavily.

OP, wishing for the best for you.

diddl · 20/05/2024 08:19

The receptionist being new doesn't explain not seeming to know what sanitary pads/towels are or having the gumption to contact someone else if he can't leave his desk.

Hope the journey home goes as well as it can Op.

determinedtomakethiswork · 20/05/2024 08:50

I am so sorry. What a useless man he was. 💐

NinaGeiger · 20/05/2024 20:21

@Uteris
Just wondered how you're doing today OP?

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 20/05/2024 20:53

Been thinking of this post OP and hope you're doing OK. I was glad for you that you decided not to work the next day. Be gentle with yourself x

Uteris · 20/05/2024 22:54

Just thought I would update.

Thank you for the hand hold last night. I got the first flight home I could. In the end I rang the bar downstairs and asked them to please bring any and all period pads they could find and to his credit the bar man turned up with 5 packs of pads that were In the staffroom. I'm so grateful for him!

Uteris · 20/05/2024 22:59

He was incredible and I have told the hotel I wanted my gratitude to be passed on, I also said that the guy on the reception desk was useless and maybe he needed a bit more training. Apparently he just put a note on the system that I wanted more towels Hmm

That is shocking.

I wonder if he really didn't understand?

So sorry to hear your news.

HollyKnight · 21/05/2024 14:39

Yeah, it sounds like he still thinks "sanitary towels" means "clean towels". I used to work in the hospital just down the road from there. We called them pads because a lot of patients don't know them as sanitary towels.

I'm glad you got sorted in the end, OP. I'm so sorry for your loss.

But Op went on to explain that she needed period pads!

Fuck, so sorry it did turn out to be a miscarriage. I've had them too and it's so hard.
Hope you're looking after yourself.

Yes, but if he's new, he might not have known that this is something hotels supply. (Tbh I didn't even know hotels kept those products in stock.) It doesn't sound like he understood that he was expected to go get them. It's definitely a training issue.

True but even if he didn't know it was pointless requesting towels from housekeeping!

He could have asked someone else, possibly googled for a chemist.

He seems to have done nothing useful!

Of course he could be 16, in his first job & had no training whatsoever.

Even so he seemed to have shown no gumption at all!
