To think McDonald's isn't actually That bad...it's not cardboard and cows ears as people seem to think?

Looking at the ingredients in most of it, it's fine??

They use organic milk, free range eggs, burgers are meat and salt, probably better quality stuff than the likes of Harvester burgers etc.

People talk about it like you're feeding your kids arsenic, rats piss and pig shit...

It's chuffing delicious.

Peaceandquiet9276 · 19/05/2024 20:45

But it’s really not great though. Full of manufactured ingredients to make us want to eat more. It is normal now though yes to see these ingredients regularly but I don’t think it should be. It’s not really ‘real’ food a lot of that stuff sadly.

Edited

I never said it was great - it's just no different to most of the food you find in supermarkets, cafes or well, most other places.

Yes, it's not butcher quality or organic but it's not claiming to be.

No it’s not much different sadly. I was addressing the OPs question about it being that bad - it’s not great.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 19/05/2024 20:51

🤣 this thread is refreshingly different.

As for mt option on MaccyD: it's salty and fatty, doesn't fill you up and leaves a greasy aftertaste.

CorvusPurpureus · 19/05/2024 21:01

I can't imagine eating it in the UK - not because of its nutritional value, I'm not losing sleep over that - just because I'd always rather have curry or Chinese food for takeaway - which are just as bad, but nicer.

But I live in the ME & sometimes miss fish finger sandwiches, so we get a MaccyD delivery about every two months. It's always mildly soggy & disappointing tbh.

But I don't think it's awful as an occasional indulgence - I grew up in the 70s/80s & ate quite a lot of dubious meat served in greasy pies or stews with mash or dumplings, which was also meat + carb + fat.

The difference is that my kids may have a burger occasionally, but they are rammed to the gunwales with a fridge full of veg & salad most days, which I was definitely not at their age.

pizzaHeart · 19/05/2024 21:09

WittiestUsernameEver · 19/05/2024 20:33

So what? Kids have smoothies all the time these days, and they may as well be free sugars, but noone cares about them?

I don’t know. It’s my guess why some people think that McDonald’s is bad.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/05/2024 21:10

Not sure about the food but our youngest has worked there part time for several years during studies and it’s a really good employer.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 19/05/2024 21:11

I think lots like to look down on MDs but in reality not that different from what a lot eat.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 19/05/2024 21:12

Also the 'hint' that it may be horse meat. Get over yourself!! Scare mongering crap.

FlambeJones · 19/05/2024 21:24

Not that bad compared to what?
There's a lot of things I'd rather eat, it's not very nice food. Usually soggy, on the cold side and not really satisfying. If I'm going to eat something unhealthy I want to enjoy it.

Comedycook · 19/05/2024 21:26

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 19/05/2024 20:36

If you only eat it occasionally, it doesn't really matter how bad it is. If you're eating it really often, then you need to be asking yourself why you're eating processed crap so often. And if you're saying 'How can meat, bread and potatoes be that unhealthy?', you haven't been paying enough attention to the discussions about UPF.

Meat and potatoes are single ingredients not processed foods...I'm talking about literally a piece of meat by the way not something like a nugget/sausage.

PhuckyNell · 19/05/2024 21:32

I haven't read it all but they do not use mechanically recovered meat

it's just silly to say completely untrue things as if they're facts

I like Mcdonald's because you know what you're getting and it's fairly cheap, ideal for a stop off somewhere on a long journey or after a long work shift.
Yes I do take sandwiches etc but sometimes it's not possible or I simply cannot be arsed!
KFC is probably worse but since they've ruined their chips by throwing dry powdery seasoning over them I've not been.

KFC chips are bogging now, but I quite like the lunchtime meal deal with the Walkers Max crisps 👍🏻

"Meat" can cover lots of parts of a cow, including its ears.

But is there actually anything nutritionally wrong with an ear? Probably less fatty?

I don’t actually like McDs that much , but nonetheless I would say I think they have made more effort to get their food healthier than most of their competitors. You can actually taste the salt has been reduced and it isn’t oozing fat like a lot of them. Not sure why they don’t introduce whole grain buns and then they really would not be massively different from a home made burger - probably better than many.

Totally not your point but so satisfying to see someone can actually spell gunwales.

Edited to correct my autocorrect in case you thought I was making fun of you!🤣

This is exactly what I mean... People just thinking it's worse than it is

It’s fine occasionally and actually there is a lot worse out there. I went to Leon recently and the amount of salt in their food is shocking even in their ‘healthy’ items.

Ozanj · 19/05/2024 22:17

In the UK Mcdonalds uses better quality meat than most michelin starred restaurants.

Crispsandcola · 19/05/2024 22:19

Maccies is glorious and delicious and I love having one every now and then. The fake snobbery around this product is usually fuelled by those competitive 'My darlings just love kale and sushi. They have such advanced palates you know' type of mums. In fact, I'll bet one of those reply to this comment and offer a humble brag like "my LO loves sushi but they also eat maccies". 🤣

Calliopespa · 19/05/2024 22:19

soupfiend · 19/05/2024 19:39

But its got the same nutrition in it as other meat/bread/potatoes/salad bits?

People are so stupid about 'homemade' (and I speak as someone who makes virtually everything myself, for reasons that are too long and boring to go into.

Another thread running at the moment, some OP is slagging off her husband because he ate a load of biscuits she baked - she prefaced the post by citing that she was making these because they're healthier snacks for her kids (than shop bought)

Yes they are not UPF, but they have the same nutrition in them as shop bought.

This echoes my thoughts exactly - right down to the other thread saying cookies were “ healthy!” I was privately thinking 14 cookies for the Dcs to share in the week was more than enough! Many people make things from scratch and seem to think putting in effort somehow compels the food to reward them with nutrients.

IVFlife · 19/05/2024 22:19

People love to be smug and snobby about it

Guavafish1 · 19/05/2024 22:19

Yuk. Along with the rest of the processed foods.

It's not snobbery too

Netcam · 19/05/2024 22:23

SplitFountainPen · 19/05/2024 19:31

It just tastes awful. Even our kids prefer other junk food like KFC and subway over McDonald's.
If having something full of salt and low quality/processed ingredients it might as well at least taste good!

Agree. I wouldn't eat it if you paid me. I know someone who got dysentery from a McDonald's burger.

Judellie · 19/05/2024 22:26

Not keen on Mc D but KFC is far worse, imo. And you get great coffee at McD. Plus deals/rewards on the app sometimes (which I always use for a coffee.......)

I know someone who got the trots from eating a Chinese takeaway...I know someone who got food poisoning from a fancy restaurant... I know some who was sick after eating a pizza... So what??

If you didn't eat from every place that someone got sick from, you'd never eat...
