if I HATE my cats?!

Ok, yeah, probably. But they left the bottom half of a mouse on my kitchen floor this morning and I've spent the whole day in fear of finding (or worse, of DS finding) the top half. I had to get rid of it myself because DP had already gone and it was a nightmare; DS wouldn't be put down and I had to hold him and stop the cat escaping from the kitchen into the rest of the house with dismembered rodent in tow.

Disgusting creatures.

I like cats, but the mouse thing! would of seriously peed me off.

motherinferior · 05/04/2008 12:50

Did you know - I bet you didn't - that cat-owning apparently lowers your stroke risk because it reduces your stress levels? I've just written about it.

The only explanation I can think of is that having cats forces you into being frightfully Zen and Rising Above Things.

motherinferior · 05/04/2008 12:53

And I've just spotted one of our felines diving into the washing basket to nestle among the pants.

MegGriffin · 05/04/2008 13:47

My cat also comes in the bedroom in the morning to wake us up which is not funny as we have children to do this. We try to ignore him whilst he purrs loudly and chews the top of our heads. As he gets no response he climbs on to the bed side table, stiffens his tail and knocks the glass of water off, so annoying but effective in getting us up quickly grrrrr.

DonDons · 05/04/2008 13:53

I don't hate mine but I do hate this time of year. We will average one mouse a night from now until November.

Luckily the cats are restricted to the kitchen at night and they do tend to eat most of their victims (everything except the kidneys for some reason). They always leave the unwanted bits right in front of the kitchen door though so you can't get in the kitchen without swiping to door over the guts (YUK).

They're not just mousers though - birds, toads, stoats and a pair of gardening gloves once... (they didn't eat those though).

itsahardknocklife · 05/04/2008 13:59

My cat keeps us awake a lot - he spends ages scratching in his litter tray in the hallway and walks around on the bed at night. I still love him though and wouldn't change him for the world. He quite often wakes DS (17months) up in the night and we can hear DS saying 'cat cat', which was his first word. So thank you Sir Terrence the cat for inspiring DS to speak!

Twinklemegan · 06/04/2008 21:38

Oh, I do love mine really - honest. They were my babies when I thought I couldn't have one of my own. They kept me company when DH was working away for months on end, only coming home every other weekend. Believe it or not, I even have fond (ish) memories of chasing live mice around the bedroom in the middle of the night - strange I know.

I think mine are more annoying at the moment because since moving into a rented house on a busy road they've been house cats. Now we've moved out to the middle of nowhere they'll be going out again soon.

However, they are trying to kill me - there's no question about that. Either through falling down the stairs, or through lack of sleep. The latter being due to cat no. 1 jumping on my pillow umpteen times a night and trying to sleep on my head, or incessant scratching at the door all night - take your pick.

Twinklemegan · 06/04/2008 21:40

And, more to the point, DS adores them. And they are so so tolerant when he pulls their tail and whiskers and uses them as pillows.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/04/2008 22:20

DH had a cat when I first met him. It used to wait for him to get undressed and then burrow itself making funny little growly noises, writhing in ecstasy in his shreddies (which were probably a bit sweaty as this was in Africa).

It was a useful cat. It used to eat his sick when he'd had a skinful as well. It used to wait outside the front door licking its chops in anticipation.

chaoskay · 06/04/2008 22:24

Our cat literally has two teeth as he had to have the rest taken out because of an infection. He can still kill and gut a mouse, kindly leaving the remains on our doorstep every now and then. He has a bell too.Dunno how he catches them!

Yuk!

amazonianwoman · 06/04/2008 22:38

One of our two (much hated, by me at least) cats masturbates too if he gets anywhere near a sheepskin rug we used to have in the bedroom. He too goes into a trance, and if you pick him up, you can see his, er, morning glory.

They're now banned to the (large, in case I sound cruel) kitchen & utility room because I got so sick of them messing up beds, puking in the playroom/on beige carpets, bringing all kinds of animals to play outside our bedroom door in the middle of the night, leaving hairs everywhere, wrecking carpets etc etc etc.

They're only 7 and tough little buggers from Warrington and Salford, so I fear they'll last forever.

I even keep secretly hoping that one of the kids will develop a wheezing cat allergy so I can justifiably pass them on to a more loving home

PinkTulips · 06/04/2008 22:45

the one and only time our stoopid semi-stray tomcat brought us anything it was a live mouse.

wouldn't have been a problem if i'd opened the window as i've had cats my whole life and am an expert mouse grabber but it was dp who stood there shouting 'pink, pink, get in here'. of course i got there just in time to see the effing mouse disappear under the washing machine he lives behind the kitchen cupboards now and of course now the cat has no interest in catching it at all!

don't hate my cat though, he's too stupid to hate

purpleduck · 06/04/2008 22:58

bohemian, I hate my dogs sometimes too

Maybe we should start a suppport thread for those who occasionally hate their pets....

bohemianbint · 07/04/2008 12:54

Purpleduck - I'm not sure it's occasional though! I really don't like them very much for about 98% of the time.

The only good things about them are:

DS likes them

They stopped us getting more burgled than we did. (We also have to lock them into the kitchen at night - they can get outside but they can't get into the rest of the house and throw themselves up and down stairs or at our bedroom doors.) So when some b@st@rd decided to break in through the back door 6 days after I gave birth to DS, they didn't get into the rest of the house. Still nicked my bloody car though.

I dont like my cat much either

although i respect the fact that she is nice with the kids

anniebear · 12/09/2009 20:20

Oh I should not have searched for cat threads

This has totally put me off getting one!

thesunshinesbrightly · 12/09/2009 20:25

you obviously dont know what having a cat intails, so i suggest for all of you that are getting cats to do research or else you will end up like these saying you hate your cats.

differentID · 12/09/2009 20:30

this thread is 17 months old.

junglist1 · 12/09/2009 21:10

Some of these posts are nasty. Really nasty. Give your pets to decent kind people. They deserve better than owners wishing them dead

anniebear · 12/09/2009 22:36

I know it was an old thread! I said I had searched for cat threads , this one came up

I am doing loads of research and heard many good things and also many bad things...but these are by far the worst !!
