Pulling rank

Been at my current work place for 3 years now. My new manger seems to be pulling rank at times and I just don’t like it at all. Her predecessor would never do that. But she too was slightly underhanded.

Anyway, my colleague likes to be a brown nose. So she just seems to inflate the new managers importance by a long shot. The other day I needed to speak to a student, she hadn’t been attending my lessons, and she began sending a huge influx of emails. She then said speak to them here with me. So I sat the kid down, I have a gentle approach. I don’t shout unless there’s straight up danger.

Kid sat down and I opened my mouth to say “You haven’t been to my lessons you can’t just email request multiple things to be done” manager pipes up in the back shouting and saying “as head of department I am telling you I’m in agreement. Do not come over here and be asking for anything at all. You need to be sorting yourself out here kid because actually, you’re out of order” tbf I thought I handled it fine but no.

Next situation, I am attached to a trainee. He’s not been doing his job properly and I need to talk to him urgently. So I did. Manager then said “escalate it to me as head of department. As head of department. I will have serious words”

Next situation. Brown nosing colleague says the kids are being annoying. Head of dept says “right I’ll rip them a new one. They won’t know what hit them. I’ll come in next lesson and come down on them like a tonne of bricks just watch me”

Like yes, great. You’re a head of department and in charge. But good lord, I almost feel there’s a power trip happening here ?
