Six year old DS

Shopping with six year old DS and he jokingly touched the private area of the shop mannequin that was dressed in underwear. He did it laughing and I said, please don’t do that and continued to walk on. In the car after, I said I don’t feel
that touching the mannequin was appropriate and that private areas are private. He was laughing and then seemed to understand what I was saying.
Am I overreacting? Is this normal?

He's a curious, young child. Its nothing.

It’s fairly normal for a little boy the think private parts are funny and do things like this. I think you handled it the right way, just keep instilling the message that his and other people’s privates are private and others shouldn’t touch them.

Bums and stuff like pants will always be funny to a 6 year old.
You did the right thing by saying don’t do it and leaving it as that. My son touched a mannequin at a similar age and got a shock when it came apart. It was on a platform so it could have fallen on him.

You told him off.
He seemed to understand.
You handled it perfectly.
🙂

Thanks PPs. He laughed and said it isn’t real and I replied that doesn’t matter, private areas are private. Reassuring to hear it’s normal.
