Vinted item not as described - I have to pay return fee?!

UnderMyUmbrellaEllaEllaEllaEllaElla · 16/05/2024 17:48

I have received an order today and the item was listed as new without tags but is clearly used. I have proof as I have pictures against the same item that I have as new with tags.

The (rude) seller has agreed to a refund but it seems I have to pay for it. So I'm out of pocket as a direct result of her dishonesty.

This doesn't seem right?! Any way round it?!

Vinted is really poor with returns - you'll have to pay unfortunately. I've been burnt twice and now only buy if the photos are absolutely crystal clear on the condition.

UnderMyUmbrellaEllaEllaEllaEllaElla · 16/05/2024 17:50

Well if that's right then it's absolutely not fair - I'm now out of pocket because of a skanky seller passing off used goods as new

Ah, is that you my skanky vinted seller?

I bought a wool cardi which had been shrunk in the wash. It was a genuine mistake though and the seller paid for the return postage.

Elphame · 16/05/2024 17:53

That is in the site T&Cs you will have agreed to.

I understand that they can make exceptions, so contact them and ask.

WhatsUnderneathTheClothesBrookeDavis · 16/05/2024 17:54

I had an item that was sold as size 6-7, no pictures of the label. When it arrived it was 5-6 and when I reported a problem I got a postage paid label to send it back in. Have you spoken to vinted?

km21 · 16/05/2024 17:58

It is possible for the seller to generate a return and pay the postage. I mixed up 2 parcels once and did this so the buyers weren’t out of pocket. You will have to go via Vinted though as doubt the seller would co-operate in this case.

ManchesterLu · 16/05/2024 18:32

Definitely speak to Vinted. I understand having to pay if you've changed your mind, but if they've been dishonest about the condition, there's no way you should be out of pocket.

MySunnyHelper · 16/05/2024 18:37

Surely if you are shopping on vinted you are expecting and don't mind second hand?
I'm not comfortable with second hand clothes so wouldn't buy from a mainly second hand market place just in case.
Before any one has a go, part of my autism means clothing is sensory issue and there are some textures I can't have near my skin and often worn clothes change texture if they haven't been cared for well.

Vinted is awful for this. I'm not using it again as have been burnt last two times. First I got sent the wrong parcel and was asked to pay to post it on to the correct buyer all on trust outside of vinted in the hope that the person who had my item did the same. Seller ending up getting stroppy and had to refund but called me a thief as I got to keep the item she had sent. Funny as it was a tatty pair of trousers that were all frayed at the bottom and 4 sizes too big. I thought I was getting a brand new pair of jeans with tags. They went straight in the charity bag.
Secondly I ordered a hoodie for my son, quite expensive, described as immaculate, once once for a couple of hours. It arrived stinking of smoke, all bobbly and with various stains and pulls.
Immediately raised and issue and sent various photos but despite my protests i had to pay for the return. Vinted just said its in the t's and c's. Pisses me off that people can just falsely advertise. I did get refunded but did have to pay the return postage which I'm still fuming about

Kalevala · 16/05/2024 18:48

Those are the t&c. I'm happy with them as better for the buyer would drive up fees and reduce the number of people bothering to sell. I only buy cheap items with clear photographs.

TheFlis · 16/05/2024 18:48

I stopped using Vinted for this reason. It’s a ridiculous policy and frankly encourages dodgy sellers to rip people off.

Redflagman · 16/05/2024 18:55

When a buyer says everything is not ok, the seller has the following options: pay for the return or get the buyer to pay for the return...so when an item is not as described then the seller should pay for the return. But they choose not to and are not forced to pay for a return.

Yes it's second hand and not 100% perfect, but when you say it's x length or size or when an item arrives and is permanently stained and the selected photos don't show this,.then the seller is falsely advertising. They should ensure all faults, size ect is accurate. Take photos of all angles, stains, wear and tear ect to cover themselves and be honest. So if a seller does buy, they are accepting the item as it is.

So don't say new with tags when there are no tags and it has been worn.

We had an issue with a pair of jeans, it stated the inside leg measurements was 36 inches, when the jeans arrived they were 28. We said everything is not ok, contacted the seller, explained why we wanted to return, they apologised but we still had to pay to return the item. It sucks.

WickerMam · 16/05/2024 19:04

I would never spend more on an item on vinted than I was willing to gamble. Its a lucky dip - some items will be gems, some go to a charity shop and some go straight in the bin.

I don't think it's cheaper than new over time.

stopringingme · 16/05/2024 19:06

Sellers can pay for the return but they have to agree when they agree to the return.

It is in vinteds T&Cs that you agree to when you use the app that is the seller agrees to a return the buyer pays.

You also cannot leave feedback for a return which I think is really bad as the seller can then sell the item again.

Some sellers also leave the item at the parcelshop for the whole 10 days if that is where the return gets sent back to and then they get 48hours to raise an issue.

Take lots of photos if you return as they disappear of the transaction, return all packaging and I send back in a box as I am not going to give any reason for them to raise an issue.

You get back the item price, buyers protection and original postage.

If you use the label supplied by vinted the cost will be deducted from your refund - but this is cheaper than paying to send via royal mail and also it is tracked on the transaction.

Vinted will most likely not get involved as the seller has agreed to the return.

You could try legal @vinted.co.uk or customer services. @UnderMyUmbrellaEllaEllaEllaEllaElla

You only get so long to start the return so keep an eye on dates.

So do Vinted’s terms say that people can sell second hand while claiming it’s brand new?

Kalevala · 16/05/2024 19:08

I don't think it's cheaper than new over time.

It works out much cheaper than new for me, but I am very careful. For example, I buy one t-shirt, love it, look for others in different colours, checking that the tag is the same. Very few items haven't been good.

CobsNobs · 16/05/2024 19:13

OP, out of curiosity, were you able to return it using the Vinted delivery process and how much did it cost you?

Of course I don't mind second hand. What I do mind is people passing things off as new with tags when they're clearly well used

I've organised my own delivery at the lowest cost option

@Maray1967 exactly!!!

The only penalty imposed from a seller acting dishonestly is on the buyer.

It's very unfair - and drives bad behaviours

I don't mind a gamble in terms of fit, liking it etc - it's the blatant dishonesty that I have to pay for, that I have an issue with!

But surely it reduces the number of people willing to buy of Vinted encourages dishonest behaviour, so it's a catch 22!
