If you bought a Melon on Friday morning when would you eat it and what do you think the latest day you could eat it would be?

A whole melon? They last ages on the fridge if not cut. I'd keep it til it started feeling too soft - sometimes weeks!

When it looked rotten? Fruit doesn’t have an official use by date, you just look at it

If its not squishy - its probably fine!

CurlewKate · 15/05/2024 13:34

Depends on the melon. If it looks, smells and tastes fine-it's fine.

DilemmaDelilah · 15/05/2024 15:15

It depends on how ripe the melon was when you bought it. I buy them ripe, so they don't usually keep more than about 3 days. If it isn't ripe to start with and is kept in the fridge it should be fine for several weeks

You need to poke hard at the top and bottom, where the big dots are. If it is squishy it is too ripe and will not be nice.

Thanks OP, I now want melon 😋

MrsCarson · 15/05/2024 15:30

I bought a whole one last Wednesday, it was hard as a rock and not in the least bit ripe.
It's on the side in the kitchen and I'll be cutting it up today. So a week later.

StrawberrySquash · 15/05/2024 15:36

I'd leave it out to ripen and eat when ripe. Which could be any number of days. You'll know once it's off as it'll start to smell alcoholic and the flesh goes sort of translucent.

Bought one last Friday.
Monday night it was all soft and brown and had to throw it away.😪
