Would you take her back to hospital?

19 month old went to hospital on Saturday as she had her first febrile seizure, got diagnosed with throat infection. Sent home and has been fine.

Stayed at grandmas last night and gone into nursery this morning they've called to say they're worried about her as she has a rash, mottled skin and is floppy and not herself at all.

Google is giving me worrying results but know it can be wrong but unsure whether to take her straight to hospital with these symptoms or GP

I'd be straight back to hospital as GP will most likely send you there anyways.
I hope she's OK. How scary. 🫂

LeonoraFlorence · 14/05/2024 09:13

Straight to A&E.

LeonoraFlorence · 14/05/2024 09:13

If she is ‘floppy’ she needs seen now.

Hankunamatata · 14/05/2024 09:13

Floppy - straight back to hospital

pastaalamum · 14/05/2024 09:14

Hospital immediately. Those are red flag symptoms.

Funnywonder · 14/05/2024 09:14

Gosh yes. I would have her straight back to the hospital. Hope she's ok.

YouBoggleMyMind · 14/05/2024 09:15

A&E immediately

JingsMahBucket · 14/05/2024 09:16

Go get your child

GabriellaMontez · 14/05/2024 09:16

I wouldn't hesitate to go back to hospital.

SleepyRich · 14/05/2024 09:40

This can't be real!
You've not written about how they are with you so you're posting for advice about a pretty textbook reason to get to A&E with them ASAP before going to pick her up?

If it's real of course A&E straight away. If you live within 20-30 minutes drive of A&E and you have car etc no delays then make own way (they'll be with a clinician sooner) if it's longer than 30minutes consider 999 - with symptoms you describe might benefit from emergency management before arrival in hospital, but typically cat2 response will be 40-60minutes in most areas so I wouldn't delay unless you can't get to A&E easily.

Of course it would still be a simple throat infection with a viral rash and they'll perk up with a good drink and some paracetamol so don't panic just get them and if as described take them to a Dr for review.

BlxckDay · 14/05/2024 09:46

My MIL has picked her up as she lives round the corner from nursery and meeting me at the hospital.

I know I sound stupid but with what nursery said had me worried and whether I should ask MIL to come back to my house or straight to the hospital and I didn't want to waste any time if she needed to come

No delays please. Straight to hospital

Ireolu · 14/05/2024 09:49

I hope she is OK

Overthebow · 14/05/2024 09:49

Absolutely A&e now. Mottled skin, rash and floppy needs to be seen right now.

TheChosenTwo · 14/05/2024 09:51

Mottled skin, rash and floppy COULD have something to do with the virus but the floppy bit in particular sounds like it needs investigating further.
Glad you’re all heading to hospital, Good luck.

Going back to A and E is obviously the right thing to do. I had a similar experience with my son. Febrile convulsion, had to stay in Hosp for 2 days as they couldn't get his temperature down. Eventually on day 3 it went down and we were able to go home.
He woke up the following morning with a rash. He was tired and a bit floppy. OMG the panic, straight back to hospital turned out it was German measles. A normally ( unless pregnant obviously) mildish illness. I couldn't believe the he had been so ill. The hospital told me that actually this was good news because it showed there was a reason for the convulsion.
Obviously I watched him like a hawk when other childhood illnesses were doing the rounds and yes he caught the normal measles, chicken pox etc but he never had another febrile convulsion.

DottieMoon · 14/05/2024 10:08

Yes definitely straight to A&E. Hope she is ok x

rokaaroundthechristmastree · 14/05/2024 10:13

I'm surprised they didn't take the initiative to contact services themselves. If you were 45 mins away would they wait for you to arrive/even make a judgement call?

JingsMahBucket · 14/05/2024 10:22

@rokaaroundthechristmastree I was wondering that too

Elphame · 14/05/2024 10:39

Glad you've gone to A&E.

DS developed sepsis after a throat infection. We had a worrying 24 hrs but he was fine and bounced back faster than I did.

Hope your LO is OK.

CelesteCunningham · 14/05/2024 10:51

You've done the right thing OP, even if it turns out to be nothing at all. Always worth getting them checked out with these kind of symptoms (and I never have my DC at the doctor).

Treesarenotgreene · 14/05/2024 18:40

Hope she's ok xx

BlxckDay · 14/05/2024 20:32

Not sure if people wanted an update but when we got to hospital she deteriorated and wouldn't wake up so she was taken to resus and was looked after there - she responded to pain and was okay but has been admitted for tonight due to that episode but they do believe it's vital and we should be home tomorrow.

Thank you everyone, I'm glad I took her. I did ask the question originally as I wasn't collecting her and didn't know whether to bring her home first but really glad I met her at the hospital and she's being looked after.

Oh @BlxckDay what a traumatic day for you all.
So glad your dd is on the mend and is in the right place.

CelesteCunningham · 14/05/2024 20:40

Poor little thing, you must've gotten such a fright. Really glad she's doing better now.
