To sunbathe in a bikini top?

Hi all
Boyfriend and I went to the green today in our town and sunbathed for a while. There were lots of people out and men with their shirts off but no ladies in bikini tops. They all looked like they must've been roasting (I certainly was). I had a bikini on under my t shirt and shorts just in case but I didn't know if it would be appropriate. My boyfriend said it wasn't so I kept my T-shirt on.
So what's your opinion? If men are taking their shirts off can ladies have a bikini top on to sunbathe?

If you were just lying there sunbathing I don’t see why not.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 12/05/2024 19:46

It's covering what legally needs to be covered, so its purely down to your own comfort.

Btw I am perfectly comfortable and wanted to get in my bikini but was worried people might think it was weird so didn't

It’s fine.

Ifyoucouldreadmymindlove · 12/05/2024 19:47

It’s totally fine. Don’t let your boyfriend make decisions like that for you.

I don't see why not, I have on the beach in the UK, I probably would in a park I just don't tend to go to one when the beach is handy...I bet some of the shirtless men were more offensive than a bikini top!

goingdownfighting · 12/05/2024 19:52

There will likely be people running in sports bras so why not?

Precipice · 12/05/2024 20:08

Absolutely fine. Your nipples are covered.

You would be more covered than men. While it would be morally fine, as the equivalent to men taking their tops off, for you to take your top off, I can understand why you didn't feel comfortable with that.

If they're treating the park as a beach, so can you.

Precipice · 12/05/2024 20:08

And the men should cover up, honestly!

There's no "legally needs to" about it. There's no actual law against being naked in public.

OP, a bikini top would have been fine. I've seen worse in parks in London, at lunchtime on a weekday!!

WhatFlavourIsIt · 12/05/2024 20:17

It's fine to sunbathe in a bikini top. I saw lots of crop tops whilst our for lunch today, not much different to a bikini top.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/05/2024 20:18

Did your boyfriend take his t-shirt off, out of interest?

RoderickHosclassicblackhoodie · 12/05/2024 20:18

Is it the first time your boyfriend has told you what clothes to wear?

Mammma91 · 12/05/2024 20:20

You should’ve just had a sunbathe in your bikini top. I can’t imagine anyone would’ve been bothered, I certainly wouldn’t have. It’s not offensive or illegal.

trampoline123 · 12/05/2024 20:22

Absolutely fine.

We live in southwest London with lots of parks and greens where people sunbathe in bikinis.

NortheastYankee · 17/08/2024 13:30

If the men can take their tops off, why not the women? Tbh, your boyfriend missed an opportunity 😉

InfradeadToUltraviolent · 17/08/2024 13:33

On sunny days women regularly walk down our high street in bikini style tops, let alone lying on the common sunbathing.

TheChosenTwo · 17/08/2024 13:36

It’s fine for sunbathing in a park. Less fine for walking about tescos but I wouldn’t bat an eyelid in a park seeing people sunbathing in swimwear, men or women.

NortheastYankee · 17/08/2024 19:22

Heck, in my previous area of residence, in town I once saw a woman riding her bike in the heat of summer wearing nothing a bra (not a sports bra, a regular underwear bra) and a completely sheer red skirt over dark panties

And last summer at an open air museum I saw a woman wearing a sheer skin-tight white crop top. So a bikini top is definitely no big deal.
