To think big breast & regular running isn’t compatible?

Lemsipper · 12/05/2024 17:19

I have fairly big breasts E cups (with implants) and I have recently completed the Couch to 5k, which I absolutely loved and wanted to continue, except my boobs are just full of aches and pains (not when actually running but afterwards)

So im wondering whether bigish boobs and regular running just isn’t compatible? Google seems to suggest this too as i’ve read the breast tissue can become irreversibly damaged with too much strenuous bouncing.

I wear the shock absorber ultimate sports bra.

Does anyone have any sports bra recommendations I can try before giving up on running? 🥲

I am a 30GG (naturally) and my boobs don’t budge in my shock absorbers. I have a Panache and Bravissimo.

Madagascary · 12/05/2024 19:08

Why anybody would choose to have an e-cup bra is beyond me

No one ever mentions it on here but I wear two bras. An underwired bra from Freya and then the shock absorber on top. It keeps them very still! I also like that the underwired bra separates them as otherwise they get a bit sweaty pushed together. I’m an EE.

This. I'm a G and this is by far the best solution for me.

mumwheresmyribena · 12/05/2024 19:29

34G here measured the boob or bust way. My goto is Anita sports bra They're lined with a soft towelling type fabric so absorb sweat and hold those boobs incredibly securely, they ain't going anywhere. I did think the bra was too tight the first couple of times I wore the first one but I got used to it and I wear the bras often for everyday now too. Definitely much more secure than shock absorbers, M&S and Freya. Ohh, they Iike a normal bra too, no wrestling with it over your head.

Alicewinn · 12/05/2024 19:31

I wear 2 sports bras size DD and they are packed down unmoving rocks

onemoremile · 12/05/2024 19:31

I like the maaree sports bra which supports the bottom of my boobs and has a top strap which means they can't bounce up. I run about 10-15 miles a week and don't have any problems with the boobs, other than it being a pita to put the bra on in the first place.

HousePlantNeglect · 12/05/2024 19:36

FF cup and I've been a runner for years. Panache wired or non wired sports bra, both excellent and don't move much at all. Defo go get it fitted in a shop. Mine are a bit uncomfortable for a couple of washes after I've bought them.

EggbertHeartsTina · 12/05/2024 19:52

Two bras for running over here too! I hover between 34E / 32F and naturally they've always been more southward than buoyant.

I have a couple of decent Bravissimo sports bras but like PPs it's always better with another on top. I actually just use my scabby old non-wired breastfeeding bras as the top one and they're solid!

Persipan · 12/05/2024 19:56

I'm an H cup. I have an Enell sports bra, as recommended by Oprah. It's a bit of an undertaking to get on (hooks and eyes all down the front) but nothing is going anywhere once I'm in.

Iamblossom · 12/05/2024 20:18

My boobs are a 36DD and I wear sports bras that are literally scaffolding....there is zero movement when I run. Anything else would be untenable.

Any bra I run in has to have a racer back. These work well for me...

38K here post childbirth and breastfeeding! I’ve been running every day so far this year and agree that as long as you get a good bra your boobs don’t move an inch.

I’ve been using Enell for the past decade and I wouldn’t ever use anything else! Boobydoo stock them I believe, that’s where I got my last one.

PoppyCherryDog · 12/05/2024 20:31

I’m an E and a keen runner. Never had this problem.

I do wear quite tight sports bras though no particular brand but ones that don’t clip at the back and go over your head give (tricky to get on) give me the best support.

helpmum2003 · 12/05/2024 20:34

OP you need to make sure you are measured properly. See Boob and Bust Facebook group. Bravissimo are usually a good place to go. Also in the FB group I mentioned you'll find recommendations for local specialist stores.

Many people add 4 inches to their band measurement and this leads to a band that is too big and breast tissue sitting in it and not being supported in the cups. Most people are wearing too large a band size and too small cups.

You normally need a band size larger in the bra you tried as that one comes up tight.

Shallana · 12/05/2024 20:46

YABU, I'm a F cup and have been running for years without any breast pain. They shouldn't be bouncing enough to cause you pain.

supercalafragilisticexpealidocious · 12/05/2024 20:58

You need a decent running bra. They basically need to not move at all. I actually resorted to wearing two at the same time to get the support I needed.

Don't run again until you get a decent bra (or two lol). You will damage your muscles and make it very uncomfortable for yourself.

I do the same!!

A colleague at running club spoke about wearing two bras together and I've found that really comfortable. Obviously two sports bras. It seems to work well because they rub less and really keep you strapped down. Also, losing weight is good, I was 12.10 when I started running club and I'm 12 stone now, and it's a lot more comfortable running. I don't think running when overweight is good for your body really.

I do this and it works a treat! I put on an m&s underwired one or Freya underwired on with a shock absorber non wired one one top and when I jump up and down nothing moves. On the one occasion I forgot one bra I really felt the difference despite all the bras I wear being decent and went back and put second bra on.

PianPianPiano · 12/05/2024 21:12

K cup and a runner here ✋. I have really, really good sports bras. I don't skimp on them. I personally wear wired ones as I just prefer the fit (I hate the smoothed together feeling the unwired ones give me!) and find them more supportive. And a good tight fitting band helps.

Seaitoverthere · 12/05/2024 21:21

Enell worked very well for me.

Musicalmistress · 12/05/2024 21:30

As others have said it's more likely not having a properly fitting, supportive enough sports bra. I'm a JJ and got fitted for a sports bra in a local underwear shop - nothing moves in that bra!!

crystal1983 · 12/05/2024 21:45

H cup here too. I’ve got shock absorber sports bras from Bravissimo. I don’t do much running at the moment but I do a lot of CrossFit. I got help with fitting in the store and sized down - is best to go and speak to someone.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/05/2024 21:56

I'm a 36 F runner. I also like Freya sports bras. These

With spirts bras, don't order your usual size as they fit differently to everyday bras. With Freya, go down a size in the back, and up one size in the cup.

MrsSkimbleshanks · 12/05/2024 22:01

I use a boob band, which makes sure nothing is bouncing around! I thought Booband was ridiculously expensive for a piece of elastic with velcro attached so I made my own (I sew as a hobby anyway!) and it's been great.

I had a shock absorber bra but didn't find it that good. Plus I lost some weight and it immediately no longer fitted properly so was basically useless - as well as being a nightmare to get on!

I don't have ££ to spend on sports bras currently, so I'm sticking to my DIY booband and it's working for me!
