Not an experience or day out

OP posts:
Jazzjazzyjulez · 12/05/2024 11:04

Not a treat for us, just something to do.

Upsidedownlife · 12/05/2024 11:05

Pepsiisbetterthancoke · 12/05/2024 10:32

Surprised people are saying there is nothing to see.

I have just looked back and through my unlimited card I have already seen 18 films this year. Yes some were better than others but there is definitely a good selection on

Please give me some recommendations!

Nonewclothes2024 · 12/05/2024 11:12

Vue from £4.99

www.myvue.com/cinema/torbay/whats-on

Mycatmyworld · 12/05/2024 11:14

We just go for a hour out, have a brunch before the show & that’s it, 241 tickets so that’s 6 99 for both of us, can’t complain at that

CoffeeCantata · 12/05/2024 11:17

What a generous and tolerant lot you all are - bothering with this 'question' when OP has neither explained what they mean or returned to the thread!

HollyKnight · 12/05/2024 11:25

It's a treat. A bloody expensive one. Cost me over £50 for 2 tickets, 2 cokes and 2 popcorns recently.

Lovelynames123 · 12/05/2024 11:25

We used to go at least weekly when I was a teen/student because it was so cheap. We rarely go now but that's more because I always nod off and it's an expensive nap! Xh takes the dc, he probably spends upwards of £50 but they always buy snacks, so I'd say more of a treat than an everyday activity

Onetiredbeing · 12/05/2024 11:30

XenoBitch · 12/05/2024 01:22

My local Vue is £4.99 a ticket. So not really an expensive treat. I can sit through a film without the need to eat popcorn or drink my way into diabetes.

Ours is the same price, so not really a treat. And a combo treat is easy to be shared so again not too expensive.

Lavender14 · 12/05/2024 11:32

For us it's a treat, and I love the experience of it. Plus there are different types of cinemas providing different types of experience.

DinnaeFashYersel · 12/05/2024 11:33

If it was only £5 I'd be delighted to go everyday but the only cinema in my town is £70 for 2 adults and 2 kids

Very envious of £5 tickets.

Iloveblink182 · 12/05/2024 11:40

Day to day event for us because I worked in one when I was younger and it ruined the whole “experience” for me. Tickets are a fiver here and we don’t buy food, so same price as going for a coffee.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/05/2024 11:52

I just checked my two local chains...

Odeon
Adult, Monday - Thursday £5.65
Adult, Friday - Sunday £8.20
Child, anytime - £5.20
A limitless card is £141 for the year

That's for any seat type so I'll tend to find a showing in the recliner screens as they're more comfortable

Showcase
Adult, anytime - £8.50
Child, anytime - £6.12

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/05/2024 11:59

lentilloved · 12/05/2024 10:59

what vue is this?!!

wow not any vue in the SE!

I just checked Romford, a "super saver" seat shows as £4.60, the other ticket options are £5.99. I just picked a random London cinema.

LumiB · 12/05/2024 12:10

I have ab unlimited card.for.me.its a cheap wya to go out regularly, lots to watch so yeah whist it's not an everyday thin more like at least once a week if not twice. We just buy popcorn from Tesco and bring our own drinks.

LuckySantangelo35 · 12/05/2024 12:14

It’s ridiculously expensive op so yes @Soboystake

C1veFlower · 12/05/2024 12:34

Special evening out for us as so expensive. But I like it like that. Sometimes go to the picture house cinema and have a glass of wine in there as often prefer the film choices. Quite picky about films.

Hemax1 · 12/05/2024 12:54

It’s definitely a treat here !

mydamnfootstuckinthedoor · 12/05/2024 13:11

It's a treat, not a day-to-day event.

TubeScreamer · 12/05/2024 13:13

Definitely a treat only now. Tickets upwards of £10 here

AlbertaWildRose · 12/05/2024 13:16

Bobbotgegrinch · 12/05/2024 10:45

How much is a cinema ticket for you? It's about £5.50 here, cheaper than the cost of a pint! Definitely a cheap night out if you don't buy the extortionate popcorn and drinks etc.

I live in Canada. For the 5 of us to visit the Cineplex near us, it costs $100 just for tickets - that's about 60 GBP. I consider that to be very expensive.

mitogoshi · 12/05/2024 10:44

What I don't understand is why people are still going to the cinema chains charging £15 when it's £6 a couple of miles down the road. Our odeon closed because people went to Vue instead, they will soon change prices if everyone did the same

My nearest cinema is 20 miles away. If you're rural there is little choice without making it a day trip.

Difficult to say why they closed, maybe the rates were too high or lease ran out Odeons were never in the cheaper bracket

inappropriateraspberry · 12/05/2024 14:00

I've just checked, our nearest Odeon is 44 miles away! Vue is nearer at 23 miles, but a pain to drive to through rural roads.
Vue tickets are 'from' £7 and Odeon are £8.50, plus fuel etc it isn't worth it.

maddiemookins16mum · 12/05/2024 14:03

It’s like a takeaway or a pub tea night out, not special enough to be up there with the Theatre or a restaurant meal out but not a weekly occurrence. However, I once bought a very cheap holiday insurance on Compare The Market (it cost 11 pound) and with that I got the Meercat BOGOF cinema deal. I wasn’t going on holiday, only bought it for the cinema tickets.

Edited

See, a takeaway is also a treat to us! Rural - not easy to get without a lot of effort, would rather go out to eat as have to drive to collect a takeaway anyway!
