Not an experience or day out

No but we go in daytime through week so only ever a few people in dotted around. It's never busy.

Fair enough!

Itisalovelyday · 13/05/2024 14:44

Not a "day out" as it doesn't take all day! But definitely a special event.
A day to day event is going to the playground or buying a pint of milk.

Disturbia81 · 13/05/2024 15:46

@betterangels but the cinema food is literally hotdogs, chips, nachos with warm cheese sauce. Everyman cinema sells sharing platters of hot dishes, pizzas, burgers. They encourage people to buy hot food.

OliveWah · 13/05/2024 16:15

Our Odeon does tickets for a fiver each, any film, any time. We don't buy food or drink in the cinema, but may bring a can of Coke and some sweets in with us. I think around £22 for a family of 4 for an evenings entertainment is pretty decent value and we probably go around once or twice a month.

The Live Theatre events are definitely more of a treat though, as the tickets are around £20 each at the Vue, but clearly an awful lot cheaper than watching at the theatre.

SecondHandFurniture · 13/05/2024 16:17

Our Odeon doesn't sell chips! Just hotdogs and nachos, and I promise you none of that reeks like a greasy bag of McDonalds or KFC.

Cattenberg · 13/05/2024 16:23

I go to the cinema about once or twice a year. I don’t see it as a big event, but I do tend to remember going.

I go to the theatre just as infrequently and that does feel like more of an event. DD particularly loves panto and I can’t decide if it’s a great British tradition or something really rather naff and dreadful.

Because they have additional needs and like to do things a certain way. I see lots of groups of people with autism and learning difficulties doing the same thing. Sometimes there isn't time to eat first.
Maybe be a bit more understanding

And a big part of being their support worker is supporting them when out and about.

And that means being considerate to others

my cousin has autism and is very very sensitive to food smells?

I go most weeks, glass of wine first then a film. It’s a lovely night out, and means I see a friend and a film, but I don’t see it as a treat.

Of course they do! It's a business.

I still am allowed to think it's not a great idea and antisocial. I hate food smells. It's one reason why I almost never go to the cinema.

We have a really nice arts centre near us that has lots of independent films that they only show for a couple of days, so lots of turnover. Then also an Everyman, for the bigger films. Between those two I can usually find something to watch. Also, the arts centre is cheap, so I’m not especially choosy.

can you list last handful you’ve seen and need some inspiration!

mmgirish · 13/05/2024 17:41

What a goady post! It might be day to day for some people but a big treat for others! Where I live, the cinema defo isn't cheap.

Greenme · 13/05/2024 17:41

We have Odeon Limitless passes so we go frequently.

Our branch does Kids price screenings on Sat/Sun for about £2.50/3.00, and Mondays are Saver days for £8.

Disturbia81 · 13/05/2024 17:44

@chilliprawns You implied I'm not doing my job properly.
If hot food wasn't literally served at cinemas, they wouldn't take hot food. We go at quiet times.
Anyway enough with your bad vibes, not replying to your negative self anymore.

TravellingSpoon · 13/05/2024 17:46

My DS has a CEA card and we pay a monthly amount so he can go as often as he likes (Cineworld Unlimited). He loves the Cinema so its a day-to-day event for us. I bring my own sweets for him and he has a big drinks bottle he brings from home. The staff all know him there and they make a big fuss of him so its like being with a celebrity.

In the past we did meerkat movies too, and when we lived near one, insider tickets @ Showcase were good value.

there really wasn’t any need to resort to name calling

SocksAndTheCity · 13/05/2024 18:00

How would you know whether a film is worth seeing without seeing it, @chilliprawns?

Over the last couple of weeks I've seen Fall Guy, Civil War, Fantastic Machine, Love Lies Bleeding and Back To Black. Tonight I'm going to see Made In England.

I doubt any of the above are going to set the world on fire, but I enjoyed them all except Back To Black which was absolute shite. I would not, however, know this if I'd not seen it.
