To be really annoyed Tim Horton have mixed sex toilets?

Called in for a drink and a wee and all the toilets had a man and a woman on the front.
They're individual stalls with their own doors so there's no way anyone can see in etc so it's not really a safety issue BUT every single one of the was covered in piss.

All over the seats. The back of the toilets and the floor surrounding the floor.

I couldn't use the toilet!

Obviously the menfolk are incapable of aiming into a toilet rather than a urinal and don't clean up after themselves.

So women can't use the facilities.
Did they even think of this?

The only way thus should EVER happen is if the establishment in question institutes a firm sitting-down rule and enforces it by putting splashback paint on all surfaces including toilet seats.

Tanyahawkes · 11/05/2024 17:17

That is vile, not the idea of mixed sex toilets, but that they are unusable to anyone who sits to pee, plenty of men even sit to pee and wouldn’t want to sit on those, never mind the fact that all women sit to pee, yuk! I would have made a complaint, I don’t know if you did or didn’t.

toilets clearly need to be checked way more often and cleaned way more often if this is the result of mixed toilets

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 11/05/2024 17:20

Agree.

but what’s the food like?

WittiestUsernameEver · 11/05/2024 17:26

Well, if they're all alinian open corridor with individual closes cubicles with basins etc then there's no issue.

But if you have to enter an enclosed space and again to enter a partial enclosed cubicle/wash your hand in the hidden space etc...then nope!

ReadySetSit · 11/05/2024 17:28

I had dinner in a restaurant a few weeks ago for my birthday and it was the same. Mixed toilets. Fully enclosed cubicles BUT, toilets covered in piss in every one. Foul.

AnxiousRabbit · 11/05/2024 17:28

We have single sex toilets at work and I have seen the girls toilets at my daughters school and believe me women and girls must also be capable of creating this sort of disgusting mess quite easily.

I don't have any problem with unisex individual toilets.
I do have a problem with other people's hygiene standards and the lack of regular cleaning in certain restaurants.

This. My ex partner was a cleaner and the ladies would often be much worse than the gents!

Thank you, I was just wondering if there was a parallel universe where women's toilets were always clean and smelling of roses. Not my experience.

I’ve worked in places where I’ve had to clean toilets, some of these places the women toilets are just as disgusting, and sometimes the men’s are beyond anything I’ve seen in women’s toilets (truck drivers toilets where there is poo covered tissue flowing out of bins)

Lavender14 · 11/05/2024 17:41

That's disgusting but I would query whether it's also an issue of the restaurants hygiene rota not being thorough enough and whether things are being cleaned properly. We have mixed sex toilets in work (we only have one toilet and there's no room for more) and can't say this has ever been an issue. It's always clean and smells nice. In my previous workplace the female only toilets were all unuseable by 3pm every day with poo and wee all over them. Our local TH is never particularly clean toilets or main restaurant so I avoid eating there.

I was in M&S in Glasgow a few months ago, every single toilet had faeces on the sides of the bowl! I told an assistant and she said she’d get the cleaner in (it was very soon after opening and they’d already been cleaned) she said this happens frequently! There are toilet brushes in each cublicle…so women can be disgusting as well.

Runningbird43 · 11/05/2024 18:18

Swimming pool I used to go there used to be boys in the women’s changing rooms and toilets.

when I say boys I don’t mean under 8’s, I mean any male there with his mum or sister probably up to 16.

piss on every fucking seat. I have never seen anything so disgusting.

I moved to another leisure centre where the “children under 8” rule was enforced and funnily enough the women’s were piss-free.

*the reason the men’s weren’t used is the changing rooms were open plan with half a dozen cubicles. Men would use the central benches to change and apparently that meant they were all paedos as some of the men weren’t bothered about being naked.
women, however, apparently are fine with teenage males sitting on the communal benches watching them get changed.

Carrot678 · 11/05/2024 18:22

How do you know it is males that have caused the mess?

huitneuf · 11/05/2024 19:11

Why would you sit anyway - I assume it's dirty with or without urine on the seat.

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/05/2024 19:17

Loads of places have mixed sex toilets, because they only have one or two stalls in total. Disabled people almost invariably just have to make do with a mixed sex toilet wherever they go. Public toilets are often pretty grim because a lot of people are pretty grim, regardless of their sex. Complain about their cleaning schedule if anything.

AspiringChatBot · 11/05/2024 19:24

If they're fully (floor-to-ceiling) enclosed cubicles with a locking door and sink inside, then they're in compliance with the law (UK). But it sounds like they've taken two facilities - likely formerly one male and one female - and made them both mixed sex. Does this mean there are no urinals in either space? If so, that may explain the urine on the floor - people who'd normally use a urinal tying to use the toilet the same way.

But it sounds like the immediate, fixable issue is that the toilets aren't being checked or cleaned often enough.

Flickersy · 11/05/2024 19:26

I couldn't use the toilet!*

Really?

Really really?

And you didn't think of, I don't know, telling the staff or getting toilet roll and wiping it, which is what I do when faced with a public toilet with a little bit of wee on it?

Where you live must be the bombastic incontinent capital of the world.

merrymelodies · 11/05/2024 19:28

Tim Horton's in Canada is bound to have "gender neutral" toilets.

Jessieshome · 11/05/2024 19:33

I don't know what a Tim Horton is, but from my many years working in bars and nightclubs women are far far worse in toilets than men. Men's do smell a bit pissy but women are disgusting! Particularly when it comes to period products. They also trash and break toilet seats all the time when drunk and doing all sorts in there. I'd be surprised if men want to share with women too!

rkahic · 11/05/2024 19:33

Not a fan of mixed sex toilets, also not a fan of going in the men’s to find a female cleaner, absolutely no disrespect to them but it’s not my personal idea of fun getting it out in those circumstances and yes I know there are cubicles but worse is when they come in when you having a pee, can’t do anything then

LadyKenya · 11/05/2024 19:38

The Tim Horton near where I live have single sex toilets, and the ladies was absolutely disgusting. I am glad that I used the toilet before ordering anything, as I was not buying anything to eat, after witnessing that.

bradpittsbathwater · 11/05/2024 20:34

Women only toilets are equally disgusting. It wouldn't bother me at all if they're individual toilets.
