Cousin stole my baby's name

catin8oots · 10/05/2024 13:06

AIBU to be over the moon?

My DS2 14 is Henry (not real name)

Cousin had first much longed for baby this morning and they have named him Henry.

Henry is delighted and can't wait for them to be known as Big Henry and Little Henry

There are more than 482,000 people in the world named Henry. Confused

BreakfastAtMimis · 10/05/2024 13:42

I'm glad everyone's happy but unless Henry is a family name it's a weird thing for your cousin to do. Her poor kid should have got his own name!

He has his own name. Hmm His name is Henry. It's not like big Henry was the first person ever called Henry and they're very unlikely to have the same surname.

Fulltimemamabear · 10/05/2024 13:46

It always confuses me when people say someone has stolen ‘their’ baby name. You don’t own a trademark over the name! 😂 would you say someone had stolen your shoes if they went and got the same ones from M&S? Would you say someone has stolen your car if they chose the same one? Just use the bloody name!

WaltzingWaters · 10/05/2024 13:48

So nice to see a positive look on this issue! Sounds like “Big Henry” will be a wonderful cousin to “Little Henry”.

JimberlyMcJimbleFace · 10/05/2024 13:52

No one has stolen mine...

...yet.

Vitriolinsanity · 10/05/2024 13:56

Big Hen, Little Hen (nn Chick)

RoseBucket · 10/05/2024 13:59

So sweet! Irish family here lots of recycling of the same names.

Mischance · 10/05/2024 14:00

We have the same in our family - my oldest GC has the same name as the youngest - there are 12 years between them so it is very definitely Big and Little! - one is at primary school and the other is a beanpole of a uni student in his final year.

likepebblesonabeach · 10/05/2024 14:24

Love this.
I have a friend who named her son the same as mine so not the same as a family member.
Not a really common name but not uncommon where we are from.
My son was proper chuffed and as I love the name anyway I thought she had great taste

TypeFace · 10/05/2024 14:27

She hasn't stolen a name . Ffs I've got three cousins with the same name as me and various other relatives with the same names !

Tlolljs · 10/05/2024 14:30

On here? Yes people absolutely would. See the thread about the woman who's sister or friend or someone got engaged as a suprise with a ring vaguely like her own and OP was NOT happy. Everyone should have noted the ring and henceforth avoided such a style.

It's cute OP and nice to hear you're not screaming about how your son feels objectified and is it too little to go NC 🤣

Would it kill people to read the first post?

Honestly it's not like it's an essay and it will prevent you looking like a bit of a muppet.

Crunchymum · 10/05/2024 14:43

You really need to spell shit out these days.

So if you are being lighthearted you need to say 😀(I got it though!!)

Great name, lovely news

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 10/05/2024 15:02

What has The Hoover said about all this? If he's upset he'll just have to suck it up.

Sapphire387 · 10/05/2024 15:02

My cousin had a baby six months after I did, and also used the same name. DH and I were flattered that they liked the name so much!!

Props for this, that's genuinely very funny!

Cosycover · 10/05/2024 15:03

My cousin asked me if she could name her son the same as mine (8 years apart) I said no bother at all. But in the end she didn't.

I don't understand people who get worked up over names. My husband has about 12 John's in his family.

Boomer55 · 10/05/2024 15:04

No one owns a name. Best to just smile.

FeckOffNowLads · 10/05/2024 15:05

Some of you are right miserable bastards

Congratulations OP, I have a little version too and it’s such a compliment ❤️

catin8oots · 10/05/2024 15:07

Tbf I love this sort of thing. My DS1 and dog also have the same name. Dog just gets called Little 'Jack' or LJ

My DS is the 'Little Henry' in this situation, to my cousins DS 'Big Henry'. They love it. They dont meet often because they are 16 and 24 now, but when they do, they love it. They have a bit of a bond and 'Big Henry' makes a beeline for him at family events to have a chat to him.
