Neighbour won't give me my parcel

redpedal · 08/05/2024 14:59

I missed my parcel by about 5 minutes and it was delivered to my next door neighbour. As soon as I arrived home I went to knock on and he didn't answer. I tried again on the way to the school run and again, no answer.

Said neighbour is in because I could hear him banging around (they are loud people but that's a whole other issue) and I could see movement inside whilst I was standing waiting at the door.

I can't understand why he's not answering Confused it's not as if I'm not knocking quietly and he can't hear me.

How do I get the parcel off him? If I can't, is there actually anything I can do about it?!

Don’t be silly, “won’t give me my parcel” 🙄

Do you always leap to wild conclusions?

CarolineFields · 11/05/2024 13:15

If you haven't got it within 24 hours, take it up with the seller - your parcel has not been delivered. ( unless you say to leave it with a neighbour)

NoKnit · 11/05/2024 13:57

If you only missed by 5 minutes then I can see that maybe his door bell rang he stopped whatever he was doing to answer it for your parcel. If you ring 5 minutes later he's probably only just got back into whatever he was doing and not wanting to stop again. YABU Try again later or maybe he'll pop it over at a time that suits him

Wishingitwaswinter · 11/05/2024 14:05

I wear my headphones in ky home and listen to music loud. He might too.
Even at that....he might not even hear you

Houseofpainjumparound · 11/05/2024 14:13

Did you get it?

BrightonFrock · 11/05/2024 15:00

Put a note through the door saying thank you for taking in my parcel, my number is 0123 456789; would you mind dropping me a text when it’s convenient for me to pick it up?” And dial down the drama about how he “won’t give it to you” when he’s probably just busy or didn’t hear the door.

Tippexy · 11/05/2024 15:20

Don’t know why everyone’s having a pop at you - or assuming he works! I would contact the sender and say it hasn’t been received.

curiousasacat · 11/05/2024 15:37

We had this issue with a neighbour. I tried 3 times, knew they were in every time as I could see them through the window. I contacted the retailer and told them and they had no choice but to re-send it out to me. I then got a sticker from Royal Mail to put on my front door that said any parcels should be taken to the delivery office when I wasn't in.

Problem sorted.

ArchaeoSpy · 11/05/2024 15:41

wearing headphones ?

Goodie2 · 11/05/2024 15:42

These days I never answer the door, people know this and text or call first.
However if I had a package I would be on high alert.

Erdinger · 11/05/2024 15:42

My former neighbours reported a parcel not returned to them by the new tenants moving in to their place as stolen. I was surprised the police attended the neighbours property to be honest. But guess it was an expensive item. 🤷‍♀️

Mn would simply remove it if you did post a picture. It's not appropriate.

Yup! Because the OP is now the neighbour. They know we’re wanting an answer and they’re pretending they’re not here! The delicious irony of it all!

I had a bit of a run in with a delivery person a few weeks ago who asked me to accept a neighbour's parcel. I was working from home & he interrupted an important meeting.

I am always happy to do the odd favour for neighbours, but do feel some of them take the proverbial. I have taken in lots of delivery items for these - on one occasion, 3 large boxes taking up space in my very small house (I called on the neighbours & found them on holiday so was stuck with their stuff for weeks until they deigned to come back & collect it).

So some of these neighbours make me feel like an unpaid concierge service.

Although I did take the parcel the neighbour had to wait for my convenience to collect it. So if I had been busy when he turned up for it then too bad.

Maybe something similar going on with your neighbour - perhaps ask him first next time? Or, maybe make sure you are in when important items are due to arrive?

fungipie · 11/05/2024 16:00

Perhaps OP has asked delivery company to deliver next door if not in, and next door is totally fed up of this happening again and again, without asking first and with no thank you - bottle of win, or flowers, etc. ever.

BobbyBiscuits · 11/05/2024 16:07

Don't panic, and don't keep banging their door seeming entitled. Essentially they did you a favour.
Just pop a note through their door, asking when you can pick it up, and give your email or number.
Do you know they definitely have it? Is there photo proof? If they claim they don't then you need to contact the actual seller and say parcel went missing.

BuckFadger · 11/05/2024 16:10

How often to they take in your parcels?

Jesus, I hate this, the thought that someone comes round and is knocking on my door when Im in the middle of something, hands up to whatever, or worse getting changed straight from work but perhaps someone has seen me arrive home (first thing I do is go to toilet and get changed, usually banging around because Im falling all over the place) or inconveniently I have to take a work call or sign into a teams meeting and cant come to the door and then Ive got an anxious angry neighbour panicking and mithering because no one is answering the door.

Just be patient, message them or leave a note saying thanks for taking my parcel in, Im home now, let me know when its convenient to pick it up and leave your number

What is wrong with people

If it's such a hassle to you to answer the door, just don't accept someone else's parcel?

Baffles me that people who are so bothered about being interrupted by someone asking for their delivery (that they may well have not even asked to be delivered anywhere other than their own address!) would accept the delivery in the first place 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm assuming she got the parcel that same day and probably feels a bit silly starting the thread 😂
