To ask the simplest way to wash your kitchen floor?

I'm really struggling with the kitchen floor.
If I hoover it, it doesn't pick up areas around the edges, sweeping it leaves stubborn bits, if I mop it with bleach it's wet and sticky, if I use floor wipes it takes ages, there must be a simple way.

Please be kind this is my first time living away from parents and I have mastered the rest of the housework, I just want to know the easiest way to clean the kitchen floor.
My mum would scrub every inch and then dry it and polish it etc but I don't have that sort of time, I just need to do in 10 minutes to fit into my cleaning routine.

I sweep it, vacuum with a nozzle anythig stuck in the corners then use my steam cleaner.

If your floor is sticky after mopping you are maybe putting too much bleach in the water or you need to go over it with clean water. I don't use bleach at all so I'm not sure.

Mrsjayy · 07/05/2024 10:16

Get a small hand brush do the edges and corners sweep into the middle hoover up.i have a flash spray mop that squirts out I just run that over the floor, how much cleaner to water are you using if its still sticky you might be using too much cleaner.

Blackcats7 · 07/05/2024 10:18

Hoover then steam mop.

Mrsjayy · 07/05/2024 10:19

Wipes will leave reside and bleach might be harming your floor.

I agree with this. It's probably the bleach residue that's leaving the stickiness behind. I also don't use bleach. Just hot, soapy water. Two reasons for this; one, I have asthma, and the smell of bleach triggers an attack, and two, I used to own a café. When I did my hygiene certificate, they asked for a show of hands as to who used bleach on their floors. Most people did, but couldn't say exactly why. A lot of folk say it's in case of little ones crawling. In that case, bleach may kill germs, but it's still a chemical and that should always be borne in mind.

vividdreamingagain · 07/05/2024 10:22

Ah so it could be the bleach I'm going wrong with then? I'm using a magic squeeze mop and just squeezing some bleach into a sink bowl with warm water.
Would washing up liquid be more affective? I just thought bleach gets things clean and smells clean.

I Hoover then use a spray mop. I don’t use bleach. Just soapy water

crumpet · 07/05/2024 10:23

Not bleach. You need a soapy solution (not too strong) and warm water. Use a brush/hoover nozzle to get into the corners before washing.

don’t have the mop too wet. If necessary go over with clean water afterwards.

I hardly ever wash mine…

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 07/05/2024 10:24

The pink stuff floor cleaner is my favourite with your type of mop

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 07/05/2024 10:24

I agree with PP that you may be using too much cleaner in the mop water.

I use a mop and then if I want it to dry quickly, I have a rubber broom from b&m (good for scrubbing at any hard to shift bits while it's wet, btw) that has a squeegee blade on it. I quickly whizz over the floor with the squeegee after mopping and then use a well wrung out mop to soak up the puddle.

ToffeeForEveryone · 07/05/2024 10:24

Often, then it's less work. Lots of very hot soapy water, not bleach you don't need it. I put a towel down and walk around on it to part dry the floor after. Only takes about 10 minutes (although I often put it off because I hate it!!).

fishonabicycle · 07/05/2024 10:25

I hoover, using the nozzle attachment to go round the edges, then a steam mop. This cleans quickly and dries quickly as well.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 07/05/2024 10:26

I wouldn't use bleach except on the bathroom floor.

I'd use flash, or something like that. A 'multipurpose cleaner' they're usually called.

gamerchick · 07/05/2024 10:27

Bleach doesn't clean. You can use washing up liquid, if you want to go arse over tit.

Get some floor cleaner or multi purpose. There's plenty to choose from.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 07/05/2024 10:27

I used to use a specialist liquid floor cleaner, then I found that Tesco multi purpose is just as good ( and half the price). I use it diluted in an old spray bottle for work surfaces, door handles etc.

IOMQuestions · 07/05/2024 10:30

Washing up liquid will make it slippy. Buy some flash floor cleaner or similar.

I hoover then use a really well rung out mop - it should only be damp.

Or https://www.lakeland.co.uk/24523/lakeland-hard-floor-spray-mop something like this. But a mop and squeezy bucket is cheaper.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/05/2024 10:36

I sweep first, vacuum edges and corners, and then use an old fashioned mop and bucket - Flash and a little bleach in the water.

I don’t do it very often! - was different when we had a cat and a dog with muddy paws, though.
In between, I just sweep, and if there’s an obvious mark I just put a squirt of kitchen cleaner on a damp cloth and apply it with my foot! (I don’t do hands and knees any more - knees don’t like it.)

Edited

I was just going to say washing up liquid is a bit slidey but arse over tit is better 😂

We hoover - then use spray mop

Lemsipper · 07/05/2024 10:41

Hoover then steam mop.

Steam mops confuse me, I went to buy one but on the instructions it said that steam mops are meant to be used AFTER you have mopped with a regular mop as a finishing touch

Yes they confuse me too who wants to be double washing floors ?

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/05/2024 10:46

Hoover, then steam mop. I have spare pads so I do the bathroom floor while the mop is out. I chuck the pads into a hot wash with cotton dusters etc.

Who cleans a floor twice? My steam mop works really well.
