To ask the simplest way to wash your kitchen floor?

I'm really struggling with the kitchen floor.
If I hoover it, it doesn't pick up areas around the edges, sweeping it leaves stubborn bits, if I mop it with bleach it's wet and sticky, if I use floor wipes it takes ages, there must be a simple way.

Please be kind this is my first time living away from parents and I have mastered the rest of the housework, I just want to know the easiest way to clean the kitchen floor.
My mum would scrub every inch and then dry it and polish it etc but I don't have that sort of time, I just need to do in 10 minutes to fit into my cleaning routine.

I use the Flash spray mop. Cleans well and dries pretty quickly.

LovelyDaaling · 07/05/2024 17:34

Hoover or sweep, then steam mop. No chemicals. If the floor is quite dirty, change the steam mop pad half way through. Steam mops are really effective and the floor dries quickly, especially if a window is open. Work backwards toward the kitchen door to avoid walking on the wet floor.

I have a Squizzo mop which I love and leaves the floor almost dry. Hoover then mop. Delphis floor cleaner works for me. I have ceramic and vinyl tiles

PickAChew · 07/05/2024 17:39

I vacuum or sweep to keep on top of dust and crumbs, spot clean if obviously needed and use the steam mop when I can be arsed.

Sirzy · 07/05/2024 17:40

I use a flash speed mop, works well at keeping on top of things.

Nannyfannybanny · 07/05/2024 17:45

It's at the end of the living room, open plan apart from a tiny section of wall each side. I vacuum the whole room, then clean with a Flash Power Mop
Usually do this just as we go out,so it has time to dry.

I hoover first with the small circular brush attachment then use a bucket of warm water with bio washing powder and a drop of zoflora. I have a semi soft brush and do it the old fashioned way on my knees (once a week) to lift off the ground in dirt as the patio doors in the far end kitchen area lead out to the garden so a lot of traffic and the dam dog!! I sweep daily and go over it with the spray mop after the school run.. Wednesday js kitchen deep clean day so it gets a good scrub once a week.

Chasingsquirrels · 07/05/2024 18:19

Mine is wood-looking LVT.

Robovac vacuums every night.
Robomop set off to mop 2 or 3 mornings a week as I leave for work.
Steam-mop occasionally, if I get out of the robomop routine and it needs a good clean.

Despite the above it is usually covered in doggy paw marks!

bringmorewashing · 07/05/2024 18:38

I have a tiled floor which gets robo-hoovered every day, and then I'll go round after it with the steam mop. It takes no time at all and doesn't require any cleaning products. Although if there's something gross on the floor I'll clean that up by hand with disinfectant and then go over with the steam mop.

Littlesunshinemoon · 07/05/2024 18:52

Pink stuff floor cleaner is your friend here! Costs about £1.30 in home bargains. Smells incredible, squirted on the floor after vacuuming then mopped away (I used one of those mops with a removable micro fibre clothe you just chuck in the wash)

Hoover then steam mop.

This is what I do. Hoover edges without the hoover head on to get into the corners, then steam mop. I put a splodge of floor cleaner directly on the floor and then steam, as you can’t put cleaner directly into the steamer.

Jeannie88 · 07/05/2024 19:32

Personally, after hoovering, I use stardrops floor cleaner. You dilute it so lasts ages and smells lovely! Either a washable flat mop or elbow grease and kitchen towel. Xx

Hoppinggreen · 07/05/2024 19:34

I find spilling food on it and then letting the dog in is quite effective

Strictlymad · 07/05/2024 19:42

I sweep them use flash mop

FarmGirl78 · 07/05/2024 21:46

Part of the problem is you're only using warm water rather than HOT water. Freshly boiled HOT water with required amount of whatever added cleaner you use.

Pigglysquat · 07/05/2024 21:53

Vacuum then spray mop. Simple.

redhotandsweaty · 07/05/2024 22:02

No real tips OP but came to offer solidarity. That picture looks like a similar flooring to mine - commercial grade skip resistant vinyl (why thank you housing association). It's an absolute bastard to clean properly because the texture is so rough that it's difficult to get at the muck. I'm saving up to replace mine!

You have to be a bit careful with some stuff. Zoflora is quite specific about not using it with hot water, I think this was after a bunch of influencers had recommended doing just that which had their followers about passing out with the vapour fumes.

Yes also a lot of cleaners including bleach are not effective in hot water. You need to check the instructions, no point using hot water because you think it’s cleaner but it is actually making the cleaning agent less effective or worse, dangerous.

RawBloomers · 08/05/2024 06:51

I hoover and do the edges with the edge attachment (because that’s where all the bits get stuck!) then pour recently boiled water from the kettle onto the floor and use an old towel which I mop over the floor with my foot. Seems much quicker than a proper mop and better at getting anything stubborn up.

I hoover again afterwards if I have time.

The towels go in a wash super hot wash in the washing machine.

Have also used one of the e-cloth mops mentioned upthread which I quite like, but still find the towel and foot method quicker.

Oh I didn't actually know that about hot water - I tend to use hot because I think heat is much better than any detergent at loosening sticky stuff and grease, more gentle in most cases than physical scrubbing, and tend to think people underuse this (DH definitely does!)

Do you know if there's a good resource or does anyone know offhand what ingredients are not indicated in hot water? Would it say on the packaging?

Don’t put too hot water in your spray bottle though. It will melt it bitter experience
I do use boiling when scrubbing the floor though. Boiling and washing up liquid, towel to wipe away the grubby water.

Desecratedcoconut · 08/05/2024 10:49

Just realized that wasn't relevant to hot water vapour. Sorry, I don't know specifically which products are worse for this and why.
