to scream at the delivery man for turning up at 6.30 when he was supposed to deliver between 9-5

and I was bathing my kids. I had to sign and give id for an important document. no easy feat with two wet children in your arms. so I had a go at him and his excuse was London traffic, which made me really mad. but now I feel a bit bad!

nope YANBU its his job and you fulfilled your part of bargain!

Alambil · 02/04/2008 19:56

he can't help it really... I guess he could have called to say he was going to be late?

I'm expecting a parcel (a big one) in the next few days - no actual time/date... I'm going to be on tenterhooks every day!

BetteNoir · 02/04/2008 19:58

He'll probably just spit on your next delivery, and then rip it up and jump on it.

fingerwoman · 02/04/2008 19:59

yes, you are being unreasonable.
he is a delivery driver. he can't help it if he gets caught in traffic can he?
ok yes, if he had a phone number and if he is permitted to carry a mobile then he could have called- but still.

LilyMunster · 02/04/2008 20:02

rah, you actually shouted at him?

why did you have your kids in your arms, couldnt you leave them in the bathroom? perhaps not in the bath itself (how old?)

OverMyDeadBody · 02/04/2008 20:02

I think YABU. Sometimes traffic is really bad and he probably had lots of deliveries to do, not just yours>

As part of my work I do deliveries a few times a week in the evenings, and sometimes the traffic is really bad and makes me half an hour to an hour late, sometimes I don't get a chance to call. If a customer screamed at me I would not do business with them again.

CoteDAzur · 02/04/2008 20:07

First I thought he delivered at 6:30 AM, and I was going to say YAdefinitelyNBU.

But YABU. Traffic is bad. Come live in France for a while and you will be grateful if they deliver within a week of their promise.

chocolatedot · 02/04/2008 20:13

90 minutes after the END of the delivery slot is one hell of a traffic delay. I don't blame you as I know how infuriating it is to wait in at home for an entire day. I avoid courier companies like the plague as they rarely seem to be able to stick to their end of the bargain.

soapbox · 02/04/2008 20:18

I think it is rude to scream at anyone.

Whether or not it is reasonable or not to be annoyed at the lateness depends on whether you would have preferred for him to return it to the depot and deliver it tomorrow.

The guy is just doing his job - I suspect he's had a crap day too and is late home to boot!

LilyMunster · 02/04/2008 20:19

id have been grumpy at having to get the kids out the basth... but then, i wouldnt have gotten the kjids out the bath [shrugs]

scottishmummy · 02/04/2008 20:30

you got your parcel.he got shouted at.

i imagine he didn't deliberately aim to arrive late or get caught in traffic.to be fair traffic is horrendous.

be grateful he arrived - worse when they don't

personns who have said shouting is unacceptable, can you hand on heart say you have never shouted at ANYONE?

OrmIrian · 02/04/2008 20:37

Oh dear. YABU. Poor bugger I'm sure he didn't do it just to annoy you.

OverMyDeadBody · 02/04/2008 20:38

I've only ever shouted at people related to me!

Shouting is rude.

TheFallenMadonna · 02/04/2008 20:39

Yep. Shouting is rude.

I'd have been cross though.

Janni · 02/04/2008 20:43

YABU. Understandable though it is to feel this way, you should not shout at the driver.

A phone call or letter or email to the company outlining your inconvenience and distress would be more effective.

DiscoDoris · 02/04/2008 20:49

Of course it's unreasonable to scream at another person.

WallOfSilence · 02/04/2008 20:53

Jeez, how bloody rude.

He was not in control of the traffic.

It's really bad manners to scream at anyone. I'm sure he's not paid enough to listen to you... & I wonder if he got paid overtime?

I'm guessing as he was supposed to deliver between 9 & 5 they are his paid hours... I wonder if he got paid overtime?

YABU.

Bemylilbaby - yes my hand is on my heart and I have never shouted at anyone!

People complain about the country going to the dogs, and this kind of aggressive behaviour is exactly why!

southeastastra · 02/04/2008 20:58

poor minerva's probably got the message now. and won't do it again i imagine.

stripeybumpsmum · 02/04/2008 21:18

We had Argos delivery at 6.50 am once. On a Saturday morning. Involving a HUGE piece of furniture that meant we all had to be up rather than just dressed and sign for it. DH distinctly unimpressed.

Poor driver said the only way they could get through all of their deliveries scheduled that day was to start and finish a minimum of one hour - unpaid.

So yes, unreasonable. Though annoying I agree.
