The way disabled people are being treated and spoken about on here in recent days is disgusting. It is verging on online hate crimes and if ithey were about other marginalised groups would not have been allowed to stand by MNHQ.

The disinformation, the sneering, the complete lack of compassion from so many Mumsnetters is vile.

Disability for the very most part isn't something that people bring onto themselves. Parents don't do anything but have different luck to you and have a disabled child.

My genetics are different to yours so I have a fucked up immune system and the host of problems that has given me.

My DH had a horrific upbringing which has led him to have MH problems- he works by the way. I did too for a long time until my body couldn't cope.

My DC was injured at birth due to a hospital fault.

My neighbour fell off his bike and has a traumatic brain injury.

My friend has breast cancer.

My cousin is dead at 38 due to epilepsy.

My nephew is so unhappy due to his ADHD bot letting him fit in at school and my sister is having trouble helping him through it due to hers.

Why are we so unworthy to you?

Are we not due the same courtesy of online treatment as those of different races and religion...or does that go out the window as you pay for us?

@MNHQ why is it acceptable for you to allow your users to bully the marginalised on this site?

Of course you did.

I did 🙂 if you don’t want to believe me, thats up to you.

mitogoshi · 03/05/2024 20:55

But to a certain extent people don't have to post about relying on benefits, you do so knowing others will comment.

Having brought up a dd with a disability and worked, and dp did the same for his dd we know that people do work with disabled children, the bigger issue is men walking away

Beezknees · 03/05/2024 20:52

I live in a flat and have one?

Well we've been told they can't fit one in these flats. I don't know why, Welsh Water said its not possible, so that's it.

Beezknees · 03/05/2024 20:56

XenoBitch · 03/05/2024 20:53

Yep, I was told by a poster on another thread that I was "self cured" from my MH issues because I was posting on MN... and that was clear evidence that I could now just walk into a job (one of those prolific WFH roles no doubt.. the ones everyone is going for)... and failing that, I could open my own coffee van... despite the fact I can not look after my own finances, not allowed to drive, and can't somehow magic several £k out my own arsehole to pay for it anyway.

I always see this on here. "Start your own business." Like it's that bloody easy. I have no disabilities, no mental health problems, and there's no way I could deal with running my own business!

HappyGoLucky96 · 03/05/2024 20:56

LeopardsRockingham · 03/05/2024 20:02

The next post was pretty much exactly what I meant.

I just can't write on the Internet....unless I'm Laurence Fox or some other like minded twat.
All black people are lazy and just sit around getting stoned all day
(NOT MY BELIEF AT ALL)

And when someone like @XenoBitch comes on to give reasons why this may be the case, generational trauma, poverty, pain relief, mood stabilers.....alcoholism being a disease. Then that answer isn't appropriate it's all well "I'm not paying my money for scum like that"

So if ita not appropriate to say it about a race/religion/a.n. other group.....why is it OK to say about disabled people.

And saying ohhh all the ones I know like from my estate or my mums, friends aunts uncle Bob is absolutely ignorant and has been explained over and over and yet MN still just let it stand.

Disability benefits are HARD to get.
ESA is HARD to get
PIP is HARD to get....you can still work
DLA is hard to get

Many people who get these benefits need them to live a basic life, mine go on my mortgage payment on a house I can't sell as I'm in negative equity and it was bought when I had a great job. So we could go bankrupt or keep on trucking.

Every penny of my sons DLA is spent on continence products. The amount the state provide are not enough and if we didn't buy more he'd be in hospital constantly or dead from infection.

But people make up their fairytale beliefs and come on and belittle an entire section of society and we are just meant to lie down and let you.

No

Well done you OP 🩷🩷🩷🩷

I don't believe you, sorry. So many mumsnet posters claim that people have told them they're fraudulently claiming. I think it's bullshit used to justify their nonsense claims.

Fair enough, you don’t have to believe me. I understand that people say all sorts on here.

Willyoujustbequiet · 03/05/2024 20:59

Apricotsaretheonlyfruit · 03/05/2024 20:38

That's naive. We almost all know people who have gamed the system.

The only naivety on this thread is people imagining that a life on benefits is easy and is a choice for many.

Fraudulent claims for disabilities is tiny but you're right I do know several business owners who play the system. It's called tax evasion and the amount of wealthy people/companies that do it makes the small number of fake benefits claimants look like rank amateurs.

WinterMorn · 03/05/2024 20:59

IClaudine · 03/05/2024 20:51

Every single person on MN who posts tall tales about benefit cheats comes out with roughly the same guff. It is so transparent.

Yes, every single one of them MUST be lying 😂

JudgeJ · 03/05/2024 21:00

XenoBitch · 03/05/2024 19:38

And if they are stoned and pissed all day.. then they are not fit to work anyway.

Fair comment but if they choose to be unfit for work through their own lifestyle choices, drink and drugs, then they can't expect us to work to feed their habits with copious benefits.

Willyoujustbequiet · 03/05/2024 21:01

WinterMorn · 03/05/2024 20:48

Are you seriously asking if it’s a divisive issue? Have you seen the news recently? And for the second time, I have not made any reference to disabled people claiming benefits aside from to say they require more support.

I was being facetious

Yes, every single one of them MUST be lying 😂

I'd say 99% are.

Oddly enough, I don't find any of this funny.

YoureALizardHarry11 · 03/05/2024 21:02

I always find it funny how people bang on about benefit claimants getting this, that and the other for nothing but you never see these people just giving up their jobs if benefits are that cushy, do you? 🤣 and I’d bet my bottom dollar not one of you would choose to be permanently disabled so you could live the high life on PIP 🤣🤣 absolutely ridiculous

Domino20 · 03/05/2024 21:02

Hoglet70 · 03/05/2024 19:37

And some of them are just lazy!

Yet somehow not as lazy as your stereotypes.

LeopardsRockingham · 03/05/2024 21:04

@Apricotsaretheonlyfruit you know I have a vague memory of having a job, really faint but it comes back to me from time to time.....I think I paid something called tax, it was high rate.
My DH does something funny with his pay too but his isn't as good as mine was he only pays 20%..
But do you what's really funny cause when I paid tax and now when I don't I have this wee thing that I think your missing...

Its called compassion.

If you want to take that as bullying go for it. Or maybe dwell on it overnight, or longer

Back the point about the threads being on-line bullying.

I don't think they are bullying. Because no-one is forced to read them. People chose to come to this type of forum. It's different to getting nasty messages directly aimed at you via direct messages that appear on your phone, in your inbox etc.

And mostly you can judge the likely tone of a thread by the title, so it can be avoided.

This is utter bollocks.
Should women avoid going past builders who might heckle and harass them?
Should a black person avoid an area where racist graffiti abounds?
Should a jewish person not look openly jewish in an area where people shout antisemitic abuse?
Should we all just look the other way and avoid bigotry and predjudice?
Mumsnet is open to all and should not have no go threads which disabled people must not read to enable hate to flourish without being challenged.

I don't believe it happens to anywhere near the extent these days that some are claiming it does no.

Having helped many people with their forms I'm acutely aware how difficult PIP is to get. I call utter bullshit on anyone who suggests it's easy.

JudgeJ · 03/05/2024 21:06

K0OLA1D · 03/05/2024 19:50

Get off your high fucking horse.

This thread didn't need starting. MN don't care. We're just going to get a shit load shit piled on on this thread as well

No-one's on a high horse, like many they are tired of working to keep others. Over the years life style choices have become legitimised and are now used as a reason not to bother with work. However this is such a polarised topic that it will never end well.

Beezknees · 03/05/2024 20:58

What?

Sorry, I meant the person that kept going on at me about starting a coffees van... she was asked if she would do the same. No reply.

Prawncow · 03/05/2024 21:08

I’d love to see some of the anger and hate redirected towards businesses like Amazon who operate in the U.K. but avoid paying billions in tax every year or multimillionaires who use every tax loophole their very expensive accountants can find and pay less tax than someone on PAYE who earns a tenth of what they do.

Waste all your time and anger on people who get a few thousand in benefits that you feel they don’t deserve - or that you’d deserve more - and ignore the billionaires who lobby the millionaires in government to twist the system in their favour.
