Just curious. I’ll be voting for them reluctantly but I’m not really sure what can or will be done about the state of the country. It seems we’re skint so they’ll just have to tinker around the edges.

A lot of folk on quite high wages still can't afford to live in central London. So they don't.

Exactly.

Maybe that poster is from that part of London, I’m not sure why even central London should just be for rich people that aren’t even Londoners who were born and grew up there.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/05/2024 14:07

I would appreciate being told the truth for once.
There is absolutely no money and the country is bankrupt so we won't be fixing this mess anytime soon.
I'll vote for anyone who says that.

Isn't that what gleeful members of the last labour government said as they left their offices?

Goldenbear · 03/05/2024 17:12

Central London didn’t always used to be for the rich.

localnotail · 03/05/2024 17:13

Allnormalhere · 03/05/2024 17:05

Surely you could solve most of those problems by moving out of central London?

If I move out of London I will get significantly less pay. Main issue. Also - I'm "bloody foreign" so my experience of living in a suburbs is not great. I love living in a city, I fit in and feel like I belong. In any case, if I wanted to live anywhere decent it would be just as expensive but I would not have a well paid job I have now.

When you learn of the things that are going on in schools and the numbers of teachers who are leaving I think arguing over exact numbers and percentages is pointless. Education is in crisis, regardless of how many 'nice' schools there are out there.
Read the education threads on here, usually started by noblegiraffe, who is a teacher. It's a shitshow.

It's not pointless at all - it isn't all schools by a long way. And I am a teacher, but continue to patronise.

Not spending the money on (not) flying people to Rwanda or faulty PPE and other enrich your mates schemes will be a start.

Labour will be dealing with increased trafficking no matter what. Even if they don’t want to discuss it it will cost

Ever heard of commuting?

And you really can't complain about being poor if you insist on living in the most expensive part of the whole country! There are plenty of places in the home counties where you would be welcomed.

Done it - yes, love to spend 1.5 hour standing on a train and pay a fortune for the privilege. And don't start me on delays and cancelled trains, what a joy.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/05/2024 16:55

Leaving aside the rudeness, @frankentall, I'm not sure why you'd consider it unrealistic for a party to oust their leader and substitute one they prefer?

It's been done often enough before, and Jon Lansman and his fellow headbangers with their push for things like mandatory reselection of MPs haven't gone away

That wasn't rude; let's see what happens if Labour wins. I'd lay considerable odds that all talk of a weird left-wing takeover is in fact shite. Perhaps we can book mark this thread and when Corbyn becomes PM I'll apologise and say you were right all along - not likely though.

Just sensible decisions, stand up to the Unions bullying tactics. And get rid of the dreadful Angela Rayner.

I wish Hmm
Might be a bit difficult, though, given that the unions provide so much of Labour's funds and elect 33% of the NEC and 50% of Conference delegates

Of course I'm aware that the Tories are also manipulated, only this time by wealthy individual donors, but it was specifically the comment about standing up to the unions I was responding to

stripycats · 03/05/2024 17:17

Marjoriefrobisher · 03/05/2024 16:17

If you can’t see the problem with a party using the policies of two decades ago rather than their plans for the future to persuade us to vote for them I’m not sure I can make it any clearer for you. But you are fortunate to be so easily pleased.

Lol at me being easily pleased rather than Tories, who are apparently pleased with what has been achieved over the last 14 years - ie nothing much!

If you can't see the problem with a party promoting and celebrating what they did last time in office as a way of countering the endless bullshit that dominates the RW press, such as "they bankrupt the country...they want everyone on benefits etc etc...." that's up to you. Or maybe you are just being obtuse. And of course they are not relying on that to get people to vote for them, but their manifesto hasn't yet been published. That will be the focus, the only reason I posted that link was in response to people on here saying they hadn't done anything!

Is this more of a wish than what you think will happen?

localnotail · 03/05/2024 17:18

EasternStandard · 03/05/2024 17:16

Agree.

But the thing is, I'm not poor. I have a good salary. But - I'm a single parent with no help from anyone. And its fucking tough.
I would be poor in "home counties" as my salary would be 1/3 of what I'm paid now. And - I would have to live in a middle of nowhere.

I'd rather we did as Labour is already advocating - spend more on enforcement officials etc than a pointless gimmick costing millions. Another reason why a Labour government will be better than this shitshow.

MiserableMarch · 03/05/2024 17:19

@QuiltedHippo unfortunately a and e waits won't drop under labour, they were just as bad then

Just look at Wales.

localnotail · 03/05/2024 17:20

Anyways, its not about my personal situation. If Labour government will be even30% the same as they were last in power I will definitely be better off.

Enforcement officials? Good luck with that.

The supply of trafficking criminals is endless

That’s quite an allegation in relation to identifiable individuals. I assume you will be supplying the evidence to MNHQ in case of any libel claims?

Blimey the Tories are tetchy today. Libel claims indeed.🙈

At first I thought this was an extremely depressing thread. However, then I realised that it's just a howl of anguish from the few remaining Tories after today's disastrous results and now I'm 😂😂😂😂😂. We've had 14 years of your shit and it's nearly over. Get used to it.

Yes. You can tell that there was an election yesterday and the Tories performed badly.

pinotnow · 03/05/2024 17:22

edwinbear · 03/05/2024 16:23

But we will be governed by sensible, able, mainly decent human beings who will be doing their best for the country they lead

Like Angela Rayner, who fibbed about where she was living to tax dodge?

Dan, Dan! Found them - the one person in the country who gives a shit about this!

I notice people post this rather than answer

That’s the depressing part even the supporters have little
