What's going on at M&S?

They've just cancelled several orders, for items of clothing & homeware, one lot ordered a week ago, saying they are out of stock.

They are saying I'll be refunded, but everything is still showing as in stock on the website. Anyone else had this? I could understand if it was one item, but it's everything I've ordered!

What's going on?

They are changing their warehouse system, hence why everything is delayed and delivery times are longer. Or so the website told me when I placed an order last week! I could do a click and collect for Monday of this week though but then had an email telling me that everything would be delayed until Wednesday. Two of the items actually did turn up on Monday and the third didn’t get updated so I had to go in today to collect the first two items as we’re going away. Later I got an email telling me that the third item is out of stock. Hopefully it’ll settle down in a couple of weeks again.

That would make sense. They're not perfect but I can usually get next day delivery regularly and while some bits don't turn up or turn up late, it's nearly always the fault of the parcel delivery people. This has seemed to be a much more systemic issue over the last couple of weeks. I've never had warnings before that deliveries make take 10+ days to arrive.

I had part of an order cancelled. Kept getting its coming, its delayed emails and then got one saying its cancelled, followed by one with refund and a £10 gift card. The item I’d ordered was only £6!!

HÆLTHEPAIN · 02/05/2024 23:00

I ordered some things and have had 7 out of 8 items arrive.

It did, however, say they were updating things (systems?) in their warehouse/s and that things might take longer than normal. I wonder if the new system is causing more problems than they anticipated.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/05/2024 14:59

I've had an email to say my order has been dispatched, all very odd.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/05/2024 15:18

And another email

I'm so sorry that your order for the linen blend wide leg trousers was cancelled and that there was no update regarding the cancellation of the order. I can imagine your frustrations regarding this matter and can assure you that this is not the quality of service we aim to provide for our customers

I have gone into your profile and can see that since the item has been cancelled your refund amount of £25 has been processed and the funds will reflect into your account within 3-5 working days

We value our customers and their feedback to such an extent that I have ensured, that this matter is noted, as I understand the seriousness of the matter and to prevent something like this from happening again in the future. Once again, I apologise for the inconvenience this had caused, and I hope this does not impact your journey with us

My journey, wtf?

I have had the cancellations but not been sent any £10 reward! That's annoying !!

Yes my click and collect was very late, and one item arrived soiled unfortunately. I did get a £10 gift card even though I didn't even complain!

Thisbastardcomputer · 04/05/2024 08:36

What has happened with the 20% off vouchers that were regularly issued? I've not had any for age. I hate Sparks and if I'm honest I don't understand it.

Their IT is glitchy as hell. Despite me updating the details on my account years ago, when I go to collect orders the system still shows my maiden name and old address. Nobody can explain why and a lady in store told me it happens regularly. I also had a fun occasion trying to return some items once, every time they entered the order number on the till it crashed! After half an hour trying and causing huge queues as all the tills crashed in turn when she tried them, the poor manager eventually just gave me cash and said she’d work it out later!

I just got a wanky email!

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 04/05/2024 10:02

Aren’t lots of companies struggling with shipping issues?
not post issues but actual ship issues

viccat · 04/05/2024 10:03

Oh this just happened to me too, one item was apparently out of stock. I received a very apologetic email and a £10 voucher.

Rugby1971 · 04/05/2024 11:53

I used the £20 e gift card to reorder the same £29.50 shirt and it’s been delivered. So cost me £9.50!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/05/2024 13:17

My new ordered just arrived so super fast.

NetZeroZealot · 06/05/2024 14:15

Just got everything I re-ordered via Click & Collect - got message saying it was ready on Saturday, instead of next Tuesday which was the earliest date I could request on my order.

Hopefully whatever glitches they had have gone away now ...

This has also happened to me along with long wait times for deliveries. Last year I had an offer for £20 postage for one year (my closest M&S are both an hours drive away) but I've not had any equivalent offer this year. Whereas I have the same postage for a year for £20/25 with Next and when they emailed to say it was ending I was offered the opportunity straightaway to renew for another year but not so with M&S.

Talkingfrog · 06/05/2024 16:56

I wanted a suitcase but it was out of stock online. Not available in my nearest store, but there were a few at a store about 30 missing away.

Requested to email me if back in stock, but had plans to go to the store 30 mins away the following weekend of still shown as in stock there.

A few days later had an email to say in stock online. Ordered it for collection at nearest store and it was due on the Monday.

Had an email to say delivery delayed by 24 hours. It was ready for collection Tues pm and I collected Wed.

Had an email on Thursday saying to apologise for the delay they were sending me a £10 e gift card, which
soon followed. Suitcase wasn't even an expensive one.

Case isn't needed until July and change of circumstances meant I wouldn't have been able to collect it on the Monday anyway.

I still used the voucher!.

Stardustmoon · 06/05/2024 20:28

I did a click and collect earlier in the week snd picked up today. No delays and all there.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/05/2024 17:34

This problem is still ongoing - I ordered a skirt yesterday to click & collect tomorrow, received no email confirming the order, and when I go to the website and log in I can see the item won't be available until 1 June, payment has been taken, and I can't change the order now. Really shit.
