Selfridges refusing to refund £875 shoes- help!

I ordered a pair of Louboutins on selfridges online to wear for my wedding day. This is the second pair I’ve ordered online. The first were from flannels. Ordered them tried them on, on carpet, way too big in size so I sent them back and they refunded me a couple of days later. They didn’t have the size down in stock but Selfridges did so I ordered from there. They came I tried them on, again on carpet and didn’t love them on me so took them back to the Selfridges store. The staff were really helpful and suggested I try them on in a different colour and I loved them and asked to exchange mine. They said since my shoes were an online purchase they need to go back online. Since it was only 2 weeks till my wedding I bought the new pair in store (as the tailors need me to be wearing my shoes for the final fit of my suit) and I repackaged my shoes and sent them back to Selfridges. A few days later they’ve contacted me to say they’ve rejected my return as the shoes are damaged (red sole). Ive emailed back (and called) and explained that I only tried my shoes on carpet and sent them straight back! I packaged them up in their original packaging, dust bags and packing intact exactly as they arrived to me. As I did with the first pair I returned. They were pristine when they left me. Am I going to have no choice but to accept these shoes back? (That I won’t wear and don’t suit me)

Did you return it by Royal Mail? They lost my parcel at the actual frigging post office (Royal Mail tracked that they received it and then zilch) but Selfridges refunded me and will try to get compensation back from the Post Office. Maybe they damaged your parcel on its way back to Selfridges.

Farah86 · 06/06/2024 08:43

I returned by DPD
Selfridges refunded one item and not the other claiming it was damaged

Try going through Resolver..I had an issue with Selfridges (much smaller purchase) they gave me a refund after initially refusing..Good luck

Hi. It happened to me too! I bought a pair of YSL sunglasses for £605. Never wore them. Returned it and they took 2 weeks, came back saying there was a scratch on the frame! I have opened a claim with PayPal and cdrl. Selfridges are thieves!!

HOW much? On a pair of shoes? Little sympathy here, that’s ridiculous.
eBay them.

Oh give over - people have the right to spend their money on what ever they want. Why bother commenting and actually if you read the full thread you would have found that she was legally entitled to her money back and got it back in the end. Regardless of how much they cost, she was entitled to her money back and it showed Selfridges had terrible customer service

Bought 1100 pounds worth of goods at Selfridges when there on business of January 15, 2025 and arranged to have items shipped to my home in the US. Yo date, no goods, no emails, no tracking number. Have contacted customer service multiple times and continue to get a run around despite providing receipts with product numbers, date, time, bar codes, and name of salesperson. It appears to me said salesperson (Imogen) must have stolen the goods and there you go. DO NOT SHOP THERE AND EXPECT THEM TO ACTUALLY SEND YOU YOUR PURCHASES

StormingNorman · 03/02/2025 14:31

For balance, I’ve bought loads from Selfridges online over the years and never had a problem with the deliveries.

Why didn’t you take them home with you in your suitcase?

I have been after a Cartier “Love” ring for the last 25 years!
My wife kindly surprised me with this for a large wedding anniversary at the end of August.
Cartier didn’t have my size in stock and directed her towards their concession at Selfridges.
She ordered from the Selfridge’s website and paid by PayPal, instead of our American Express as she didn’t want me to see the statement and ruin the surprise.

We opened the package from Selfridge’s together and I tried on the ring. Unfortunately, the ring was too small for me and after less than a minute of trying to get it on my finger, we carefully put it back into the packaging and use the Selfridge’s website to have DHL collect the return.

A week later we still hadn’t heard from Selfridges, so we chased them.
They came back with a rather shocking response…

They said that after rigourous examination the ring was damaged and therefore they would not issue a refund.
This is simply not true. We had the ring out for less than one minute and we did not notice any imperfections with the ring. We certainly did not damage it.
I know it is hard to trust people, but I am a regulated individual and I swear on both of my parents lives (aged 84 and 87!) that we did not mark or scratch that ring in anyway whatsoever.

£2000 is an awful lot of money to us and what was meant to be a surprise gift has ended up badly backfiring.

A simple Google search shocked as further. It showed that this was very common at Selfridges, especially from their Cartier department, which is incredibly alarming for a store such as Selfridges.

Moreover, a simple search shows this is a common issue and has been written about in the national press. Who would have thought it from Selfridges!

They then came back and said it was returned after their 14 day return policy, but it was done on the 13th day!

They can’t keep getting away with this.

Yellowcrocuspatch · 21/09/2025 12:23

Why did you wait 13 days to return it when you knew instantly that the ring didnt fit?

Did you try on the ring against other rings on the same finger? The bashing around trying to make the ring fit would mark the ring.

Why did you leave it until the last minute to return something when they need to RECEIVE something within 14 days?

Edited

Presumably the wife purchased the ring in advance of the anniversary, rather than the day before…

Very risky when ring size is so important.

ThisNoisyTraybake · 21/09/2025 17:04

Thank you @apintofwine
The time scale isn’t really an issue, as we completed the online form on day 13z

it is their accusation of damage:
I lifted the ring out of the box, tried to slip it on my finger (that has no other rings on it) and then placed it straight back in the box.

look how many times this has happened to others
