Selfridges refusing to refund £875 shoes- help!

Shoedisastor · 01/05/2024 11:14

I ordered a pair of Louboutins on selfridges online to wear for my wedding day. This is the second pair I’ve ordered online. The first were from flannels. Ordered them tried them on, on carpet, way too big in size so I sent them back and they refunded me a couple of days later. They didn’t have the size down in stock but Selfridges did so I ordered from there. They came I tried them on, again on carpet and didn’t love them on me so took them back to the Selfridges store. The staff were really helpful and suggested I try them on in a different colour and I loved them and asked to exchange mine. They said since my shoes were an online purchase they need to go back online. Since it was only 2 weeks till my wedding I bought the new pair in store (as the tailors need me to be wearing my shoes for the final fit of my suit) and I repackaged my shoes and sent them back to Selfridges. A few days later they’ve contacted me to say they’ve rejected my return as the shoes are damaged (red sole). Ive emailed back (and called) and explained that I only tried my shoes on carpet and sent them straight back! I packaged them up in their original packaging, dust bags and packing intact exactly as they arrived to me. As I did with the first pair I returned. They were pristine when they left me. Am I going to have no choice but to accept these shoes back? (That I won’t wear and don’t suit me)

It's no more ridiculous than many other prices - £2 million on a small house in London, for example, when the same house in, say, north Wales might cost less than £150k. Things are worth what folk are prepared to pay for them.

With designer items, people are paying for the exclusivity - the fact that most people won't have the same shoes - the 'statement' that they can afford them. If they were reduced to £100 probably no one would buy them.

I wouldn't spend that much on shoes, but I might, if I had it to spare, spend it on original art, and £875 on a paint covered canvas is no more ridiculous, logically, than on some glued, stitched and polished leather.

Designer stuff it’s all about exclusivity. Some like to show the labels off. Some like me prefer understated labels.

Brilliant OP!

I hope you have a lovely wedding day.

ps I’d be really wary of ever buying from selfridges again!

I know I'm missing the point entirely but why do CL make shoes with soles that are so fragile? Is it part of showing off wealth if your louboutin soles are still red? Is it the other way around and visible wear is a desirable thing?

Genuine questions as this is waaaay outside of my experience.

Pretty much

Wear once and buy a new pair. Worn soles are not desirable, just shows you can’t really afford their shoes!

I ruined a pair attending a funeral. The aisle had gratings in it.

WalkingaroundJardine · 05/05/2024 21:49

Great news! Enjoy your wedding.

Like George @ Asda.

Huge congratulations, OP. I'm genuinely happy to read this. Wishing you a wonderful wedding!

This isn’t true

They only have to accept returns if faulty

The onus is on the OP to return in pristine condition

This isn’t true.

With unseen purchases, you have a 14 day cooling off period.

@Shoedisastor That really sucks.

I bought a pair of ''Bareback'' waterproof leather wellies {£200} this winter, and was unsure of size.

I too was told to only wear them indoors to keep the sole immaculate- Luckily they fitted, but one can't give then a proper trial indoors.

That red 'paint' for want of a better word- I don't see how you could have scratched them merely walking on carpet? What a total nightmare.

Maybe contacting the manufacturer, and a salutary lesson for anyone buying shoes online where fit is obviously going to be an issue.

I understand totally how gutted you are.

Maybe Louboutin themselves might be able to help?

You can't expect to weat them outside and then return them - that would be crazy

The phrase “first world problem” springs to mind…

Eurgh horrible phrase.
just because someone is able to treat themselves to expensive shoes for their wedding does not mean that they have £900 to just lose and don’t have the right to complain about it.

I agree. It also doesn’t mean they don’t have huge problems we don’t know about.

Regardless of the condition of the shoes, is the shop legally obliged to refund them simply because they were the wrong size? I thought this was only the case if the item was faulty.

It depends on their return policy. Selfridge's return policy says if unused, yes.

boredybored · 06/05/2024 07:36

These shoes are known for their soft soles . They don't last at all and always need re sole ing ..

I had a return refused from Zara once and I'd only tried it on for 2 seconds and folded it up again nearly 🙄

LesserSpottedDalmation · 06/05/2024 07:37

I'd just keep going back to them.

Reiterate you followed the instructions (and Point out you did the same with the previous pair - you're aware of how to treat these beauties)

Point out the full story - you bought elsewhere but size wasn't right then you bought other colour in store with them.

Could you threaten to return the others (the ones you want) and say you'll buy them elsewhere as this customer service failure on their part is destroying any loyalty you had to their brand? (If you've worn the ones you want to keep already you could buy them elsewhere and return THOSE to Selfridges instead, b4stards!)

IsoldeWagner · 06/05/2024 07:42

It's been resolved @LesserSpottedDalmation

theholesinmyapologies · 06/05/2024 07:49

Great result.

Really sounds like Selfridge needs to have protective stickers on the soles... foolish not to, really.
