Selfridges refusing to refund £875 shoes- help!

Shoedisastor · 01/05/2024 11:14

I ordered a pair of Louboutins on selfridges online to wear for my wedding day. This is the second pair I’ve ordered online. The first were from flannels. Ordered them tried them on, on carpet, way too big in size so I sent them back and they refunded me a couple of days later. They didn’t have the size down in stock but Selfridges did so I ordered from there. They came I tried them on, again on carpet and didn’t love them on me so took them back to the Selfridges store. The staff were really helpful and suggested I try them on in a different colour and I loved them and asked to exchange mine. They said since my shoes were an online purchase they need to go back online. Since it was only 2 weeks till my wedding I bought the new pair in store (as the tailors need me to be wearing my shoes for the final fit of my suit) and I repackaged my shoes and sent them back to Selfridges. A few days later they’ve contacted me to say they’ve rejected my return as the shoes are damaged (red sole). Ive emailed back (and called) and explained that I only tried my shoes on carpet and sent them straight back! I packaged them up in their original packaging, dust bags and packing intact exactly as they arrived to me. As I did with the first pair I returned. They were pristine when they left me. Am I going to have no choice but to accept these shoes back? (That I won’t wear and don’t suit me)

Im glad @Shoedisastor got a refund but honestly this still dire customer service and it is totally pathetic that she had to email the CEO to get some basic customer service.

it so sad because selfridges was my absolute fave shop of all time but the customer service started to nose dive about a decade ago... i gave up after an incident in the YSL concession which was the lasy straw.

I cant even bring myself to give them my money now.

Zodfa · 06/05/2024 17:17

I think if you are going to spend that much money on something, and are so easily going to decide you don't want it, you should buy it in the shop.

I wouldn't spend £90 on shoes/clothes online if I thought I might not like them, let alone £900.

happy bank holiday! What a massive relief

Oh amazing!!!!!!! So chuffed!

Not going to lie though it has made me rethink shopping at selfridges.

Good look and congratulations with your wedding xxxx

That isn't the point, the point is that customer service shouldn't be so poor that all this is necessary. Not everyone lives near designer clothes shops, sometimes you need to buy something online and you should be able to do that with as much assurance as you would buying something in the bricks and mortar store.

Playingintheshadow · 06/05/2024 17:35

Excellent result! Just a shame you had all the hassle of that first!

Itsallchange · 06/05/2024 17:53

Sorry not read through the entire thread but could you advise that you tried to return in store so they were inspected by a store assistant who advised they couldn’t return them but to send them back online and suggested an alternative pair which you purchased. Why would you do that if you wore these!

Itsallchange · 06/05/2024 17:53

Sorry just read your update great result!

Buying fakes is not cool tho.

I agree up to a point. I remember getting fed up of all the videos a few years ago, when Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow palettes were popular and people were happily buying the fake versions of dubious quality (they've found all sorts of disgusting things in fake makeup.) But then brands like Revolution and W7 who are reputable do dupe versions of high end makeup, but it doesn't have the same packaging, so isn't as desirable. I also got fed up of people telling me I should buy makeup off Wish/Shien/Temu (hell no,) as well as fake Pusheen and Harry Potter merch (absolutely not!)

stichguru · 06/05/2024 20:06

On your second picture, that damage looks quite obvious, How did you not notice they had been sent to you like that before you wore them?!

dupes are acceptable. when you buy fakes though you are also probably unknowingly supporting sex trafficking prostitution drug dealing activities etc. it's funding crime

Marvelsquirrel · 06/05/2024 20:52

Citizens Advice were really helpful when I had a problem returning something bought online. I spoke to a really knowledgable person who gave me great advice. Also, I think the onus is on the shop to prove that you caused the damage. But Citizens Advice can give you the relevant legislation to quote back at the shop if they are difficult.

Thank god you got a refund! But bloody hell this has put the fear of god into me regarding expensive purchases online. I guess the lesson is luxury items should be purchased in person!

I would never buy something expensive on line. It's like the Elie Saab dresses you see popping up on Amazon - wtf buys these? 6k? 🙄

PriscillaPresssley · 07/05/2024 18:19

Aw that's great news OP, enjoy wearing them on your wedding day

But dear god those types coming on to boast that they wouldn't buy this or that are bloody frustrating, as that wasn't what you asked!

TheQuaintCritic · 08/05/2024 20:41

BodenCardiganNot · 01/05/2024 11:32

Those photos do look as if the shoes have been worn on something other than carpet.

I’d hazard a guess and say you’ve never owned a pair of louboutin shoes. The moment you step foot outside, the red sole wears off.

OP - I would fight this and say the shoes arrived with you like that.

LittleCharlotte · 09/05/2024 07:34

fungipie · 06/05/2024 10:06

and they cost £900? I know- I was flamed when I made a similar comment on handbags. And yet, I cannot even begin to fathom how anyone can spend that kind of money on shoes, ever. Such an eyeopener.

It's not hard to fathom, surely? Some people have more money than others.

GreenTreeFlower · 09/05/2024 09:48

It's a bit pathetic when posters flame OPs for choosing to spend their money on something extravagant. I've no interest at all in brand clothing but I can understand that just because I'm not interested then that doesn't mean no one is.
I don't drink alcohol and I don't smoke so could pretend to be outraged and shocked whenever anyone orders a alcohol or smokes. People 'waste' money on all sorts of things.

LittleCharlotte · 09/05/2024 07:34

I do, I don't.

But surely, if soles wear out after a few wears, this price is ridiculous. And also, if you spend that much on shoes, you would not buy online but want to try them in the shop to make sure they fit.

fungipie · 09/05/2024 10:26

Some people, as we know, also get into massive debts for weddings, etc, because they do not have 'more money' at all, but get caught out in this diabolical wedding race, with all its consequences.

Yellowcrocuspatch · 14/05/2024 11:31

I bought a coat from Selfridges over the weekend, it arrived the next day and I didn’t like it aka too fat to fit in it. I returned it this morning. I’ll let you know how I get on.
