Selfridges refusing to refund £875 shoes- help!

I ordered a pair of Louboutins on selfridges online to wear for my wedding day. This is the second pair I’ve ordered online. The first were from flannels. Ordered them tried them on, on carpet, way too big in size so I sent them back and they refunded me a couple of days later. They didn’t have the size down in stock but Selfridges did so I ordered from there. They came I tried them on, again on carpet and didn’t love them on me so took them back to the Selfridges store. The staff were really helpful and suggested I try them on in a different colour and I loved them and asked to exchange mine. They said since my shoes were an online purchase they need to go back online. Since it was only 2 weeks till my wedding I bought the new pair in store (as the tailors need me to be wearing my shoes for the final fit of my suit) and I repackaged my shoes and sent them back to Selfridges. A few days later they’ve contacted me to say they’ve rejected my return as the shoes are damaged (red sole). Ive emailed back (and called) and explained that I only tried my shoes on carpet and sent them straight back! I packaged them up in their original packaging, dust bags and packing intact exactly as they arrived to me. As I did with the first pair I returned. They were pristine when they left me. Am I going to have no choice but to accept these shoes back? (That I won’t wear and don’t suit me)

She doesn’t want to resell them. And take the hit if they sell for less than she paid for them. Why should she do this?

I think legally OP has a leg to stand on legally and Selfridges are pulling a fast one on her.

I know, and I think she will win this if she fights it. But I'm trying to help her keep calm because getting married is stressful enough as it is. If the worst comes to the worst, she can still get quite a lot of her money back
That's the worst case scenario.

PeloMom · 02/05/2024 18:32

Did you pay by credit card? Can you dispute?

Sleepytiredyawn · 02/05/2024 18:34

Go to the shop, take a picture of some other shoes in the same colour and send it back. Tell them this is how they arrived. Maybe a member of staff at your side has tried them on 🤷🏻‍♀️ worth a try at that price.

It’s mostly the case even more so now that even designer brands aren’t the quality they were. But people like the prestige of a label and think they get a better quality item.

Since I was younger I rarely buy designer now. It’s interesting I was in Wimbledon village high street the other day (don’t go there much nowadays) and though they have expensive brands and boutiques there a few resale designer ones and eg Joseph (an old fave of mine) has long gone.

So very true.
I looked on Ebay at second hand Hermes dog collars and was shocked at how tatty they look! My English leather saddler made £10 one has done thousands of miles in all weathers and still looks lovely. {Pic}

The Hermes ones? scratched and dry - and still hundreds of pounds! Insanity.

I would have expected better - seems the leather they use for the dog collars isn't great quality.

Hermes used to be a really high quality harness makers and saddlers.

I used to ride from Wimbledon Village years ago from Dog and Fox stables years ago to Wimbledon Common- lovely area.}

These red~soled shoes aren't really designed for walking in...One would need to ''Hover'', one's feet not making contact with the floor- or Heaven forbid.- a grubby pavement! 👠👠

Open a dispute with PayPal.

But even if you purchased on Paypal surely you have a bank or credit card attached? Or have you actually loaded money onto Paypal?

I paid £40 for my wedding shoes !!

Shoedisastor · 02/05/2024 19:07

I’ve posted on twitter about it. I haven’t got a clue how to use it as it’s been about 10 years but I’ve tagged Selfridges. I’m hoping it might at least get it some attention

OP, I can't see your tweet to Selfies on their Twitter page (appreciate you may want to keep your identity secret), but if you want to share you tweet, you've got a thread of MN'ers ready to jump on it and like it and get you your money back

Pinkrinse · 02/05/2024 19:22

Check on any of your insurance policies to see if you have legal advice included. If not join which legal it’s not tha5 expensive and may well be worth it as they got me mybmoney back on a “tailor” made recliner £1800 which didn’t suit my husband and the company refused to refund,

I’d leave a suitably terrible Trustpilot review for Selfridges. Companies often respond to those.

It's under the Replies tab because the tweet starts with @ selfridges

OP I'd try again with your problem first and then the @ tag at the end, then it should be visible on your timeline

And?

And the point is 875 for a pair of shoes is effing ridiculous. And yes I know people are free to spend their money on what they wish but even so, 875.....

WhatShallIdo11 · 02/05/2024 19:51

MsLuxLisbon · 02/05/2024 19:15

And?

I think it’s insane to pay that much for a pair of shoes that are so delicate that you have to wear them only on carpet - I wonder if it’s more money than sense, or just portraying that view but each to their own I suppose

It's no more ridiculous than many other prices - £2 million on a small house in London, for example, when the same house in, say, north Wales might cost less than £150k. Things are worth what folk are prepared to pay for them.

With designer items, people are paying for the exclusivity - the fact that most people won't have the same shoes - the 'statement' that they can afford them. If they were reduced to £100 probably no one would buy them.

I wouldn't spend that much on shoes, but I might, if I had it to spare, spend it on original art, and £875 on a paint covered canvas is no more ridiculous, logically, than on some glued, stitched and polished leather.

How is your opinion remotely relevant or helpful to the OP, though? She has already spent the money and now needs a refund. How much someone else paid for their wedding shoes has nothing to do with anything.

I’ve never spent £900 on a pair of shoes, but that doesn’t mean that OP deserves to be ripped off! This implies that she deserves it!

@AdobeWanKenobi - you used STRING?! But some starving kid could have used that as a fishing line, you heartless cow!

In fairness I salvaged the string from my late Grandads vest.

I never said she doesn’t deserve a refund - of course she does if they were damaged on receipt - was just saying that I wouldn’t pay that money for shoes that would be damaged so much apparently by wearing them !
