AIBU to think there are a lot of emotionally vampiric or attention seeking people on MN?

I have come across so many people who will start a thread, write a life story, get lots of sympathy and advice, not take any of it on board or will be openly defensive, then start another thread asking the same questions with tweaks in the story until they get the desired answers. You only have to look use the search to see the contradictions between posts.

Edit: Emotional! Damn it.

I've been on a lot of fora over the years, & honestly you're right.

Maybe it's because most of them have been interest specific & this is a more 'general' one, but it's definitely more of a pity party & I never realised how many people had such shitty partners/neighbours/family & so reluctant to make positive changes to rectify their situation.

Great thread title.

I always think the posters who do what you describe really want to be told the problem isn't as bad as they know, in their hearts, it is. They want to be told everything is really going to be OK. and they dont need to do anything.
Then when they are told well actually, it is bad, its really bad,and are given advice such as Leave they just can't handle it. They don't actually have the self confidence to do anything. So they start a new thread hoping to get the response they want.
