Controlling DC mobile phone usage.

DC is 12 and has a mobile phone.

Do you allow your DC to self regulate or do you control their screen time?

If you control the screen time, what are your rules surrounding it?

Thanks

I use Family Link app to control my 13 and 14 year olds phone usage. We have agreed on time limits for different apps and the phone is off between 9.30pm and 6.30am.

I have never heard of this app, I will need to investigate.

Our DC does not get their phone until it's time to leave for school, it's then handed into the office until home-time but after school is a nightmare.

We are trying to explain that DC need to recognise when the phone isn't a priority and if there are things needing done then the phone needs to get put down but it's not working.

We don't want to be taking it off them every time something needs done but it's heading that way because right now we are having to constantly repeat ourselves when asking them to do anything

We are at the end of our tether with it

Thanks - how does family link work?

@pinkpaperpockets We have the whole setup our 10 & 8 y.o. would get their screen allowance only after they complete their duties (i.e. homework). And they can earn more time if they go an extra mile (i.e. help to unload dishwasher, take out trash etc.). FamilyLink is an ok app to set basic rules, but if you use iPhone or iPad there is a new free app called ScreenTreat, so you can set time rules and custom task schedule there
