To be feeling grumpy about my missing breakfast?

I am usually up about 2 hours before everyone else on a Sunday to deal with cats and dog and sometime ago decided that it would be nice to have a quiet treaty breakfast.

This week I bought a bag of frozen pain au chocolat and hid them at the back of the freezer with a label saying "mums please don't eat". 6.45am this morning... they gone all gone. I wasn't planning to eat them all by the way the others were for everyone else later.

AIBU to feel very grumpy that ended up with toast ?

I’d be really annoyed with that provided you don’t eat ‘better’ generally than the others

If it’s just been a week when did they eat them ?

WhereCanWeBe · 28/04/2024 08:15

I voted YANBU but changed my mind to YABU as all I want is a pain au chocolate now 😂. I would be very annoyed! Are you sure they're not there?

PickledMumion · 28/04/2024 08:15

That's incredibly rude of them. Are they old enough to be asked to pop down to the shops and get you some more?

ZipZapZoom · 28/04/2024 08:15

I'd be really cross about that was it a child or a partner who ate them ?

ASighMadeOfStone · 28/04/2024 08:16

Well. YANBU that your family didn't tell you they'd finished all of a food item so more could be bought.

YABU though for having mine/theirs food in the first place. It's your family, not a student flat.

(I know you didn't ask that question but it's one of the weirdest MN things there is )

Nomorecoconutboosts · 28/04/2024 08:16

YANBU
I work shifts and have been through similar experiences!
next time try camouflage. Buy a bag of value spinach or cheap frozen mixed veg. Decant these into an empty bag and store your croissants in the veg bag. They’d be safe then!

Divebar2021 · 28/04/2024 08:20

That spinach tip is genius

YANBU OP. It had a label on…just because it exists in the house doesn’t mean everyone else is entitled to eat it. I’d be pissed off too

Nomorecoconutboosts · 28/04/2024 08:20

@ASighMadeOfStone

I can see your point too but sometimes my home is like a student flat. Two teenagers, pretty much open house for them and their friends.
Two of us work very unsocial hours.

If someone eats all the yogurts or pizzas or whatever (when there was originally enough for each person) the person arriving home at 11.30pm might have nothing. Or the person starting a shift at 4am might find their lunch for that day gone…

It would be different if the person just buys enough for themself only and keeps it hidden.

WarshipRocinante · 28/04/2024 08:22

That’s really mean of them. Who would go looking through the freezer and do that? It’s just really really mean, and I think it really shows what they think of you.

listsandbudgets · 28/04/2024 08:22

It must have been one of the DC. My DP is low carbing and very strict about it. He's lost 7 stone over last couple of years (he was vastly overweight) and wouldn't' touch something as toxic as a pain au chocolat!!

Nomorecoconutboosts · 28/04/2024 08:23

@PickledMumion
If they are old enough to pop out and get more then they will likely still be in bed and fairly resistant to doing so haha.

WarshipRocinante · 28/04/2024 08:24

Well then, your kid has shown you what they think of you. Time for some discussions around respect, and fairness and valuing the people in their lives rather than just thinking about themselves. And also not buying them any treats this week. They can have fruit or veg sticks.

0verandoveragain · 28/04/2024 08:24

How come they were only for you? How come no one else is allowed any of them?

exomoon · 28/04/2024 08:24

How on earth did they find it?! Is the back of the freezer often full of treats?

Tell the kids as they can’t respect basic instructions, you won’t be buying any treats for the next week.

Irrelevant.

I'm sorry your child has been so inconsiderate to you. I'd definitely be having a conversation about respecting other people's stuff and expecting them to replace them. Nip it in the bud or they're going to be the twat at university who nicks everyone else stuff and thinks there's no consequences.

FlameTulip · 28/04/2024 08:26

Do the spinach thing OP!

exomoon · 28/04/2024 08:25

Irrelevant.

No its not. It could be the reason why it's happened, because nice things only being bought for 1 person making them forbidden.

Divebar2021 · 28/04/2024 08:26

How come they were only for you? How come no one else is allowed any of them?

she literally says she wasn’t going to eat all of them.

Createausername1970 · 28/04/2024 08:27

Loving the spinach tip. I have a bag of veg that will probably get used up soon. I will keep the bag and stash the Ben and Jerry's in it!

0verandoveragain · 28/04/2024 08:24

Totally missing the point. Why can't the OP buy shit just for herself. Although she's already said she would have shared after having hers this morning so it's a bit of a moot point anyway.

listsandbudgets · 28/04/2024 08:27

Our house is pretty much as @Nomorecoconutboosts describes - 2 teens lots of people in and out. I'm used to food flowing in and out (mainly out!) rather fast... Sometimes I don't even know how many people are in the house! it may well have been DD and friends thinking she'd replace it - she's 18 and pretty good about that sort of thing but doesn't always get round to it immediately.

Never mind my life is pretty good really if all I've really got to be grumpy about on a Sunday morning is my missing pastry Grin

I just seen the "mums please don't eat", I didn't see the bit where it said the others were for everyone else later. So I thought it was odd to only have been Mums. I stand corrected.

usernother · 28/04/2024 08:29

I'd be absolutely furious and everyone in the house would now be awake because of how annoyed I would be. I hope you've woken them all up OP.

MissTrip82 · 28/04/2024 08:29

The unkindness of taking the last one of something you’ve clearly marked as a treat for you would make me furious. Someone has demonstrated very low levels of empathy and consideration and I’d want to know who.
