My silky, straight hair I had before kids is now dry, frizzy and a nightmare to do anything with….

AIBU to just want my old hair back?!?!

Is anyone else in the same boat? Have you found any miracle solutions?!

Pre kids I had long curly hair. Now it’s thin, dry and frizzy and breaks really easily with sparse hair at the temples. I don’t have any advice but sympathise.

How old are you? Could it be perimenopause?

Candleabra · 27/04/2024 22:02

How long since your last pregnancy? The hormones do take a while to settle down.

SeriousFaffing · 27/04/2024 22:03

In the same boat. Interested in any tips.

Mine did seem to pick up for a bit… Although it was when I got pregnant again. I currently have lots of tufty regrowth bits again.

I have to make sure that I comb conditioner through my hair in the shower and then wetbrush/comb my hair straight out the shower. Hair oil helps a bit.

I had a really good chat with my hair dresser about this. She's also a scalp specialist and I'm now having a program of treatments which is meant to bring it back to life. Whether it will or not I don't know but I enjoy the couple of hours peace that I get at the hair dressers! Long story short, sadly I think it's quite normal for some of us, but hopefully it goes back to normal!

How long has it been since your last pregnancy? My hair took a full two years to recover after my son was born! I had an absolute nightmare of hair loss, uneven re-growth, dull hair... Now mostly better although i would probably benefit massively from more frequent hair trims than what my budget and schedule currently allow!

Blessedbethefruitz · 27/04/2024 22:54

Can't help with the hair, but I wish I had my pre baby skin. Before my second, I had a handful of freckles. I am now one enormous hyperpigmentated freckle... Not sure why it didn't happen with my first, also didn't get a belly line with either.

Recently started using an anti dark spot cream which looks to actually be having some impact, skin looks lighter in general (I'm formerly a pale dark hair woman), so perhaps the beauty industry is not the bs I had pegged it at!

Herbal essences aragon oil has really worked for me lately if you've not tried it. Dp even commented on it specifically (his compliments are usually generic you look nice ones.)

I’ll be 42 in July, so could be a combo of babies and age 🤪🤪

My youngest is 2.5 - maybe because I’m an older Mum (nearly 42) it’s too late for a recovery now! 🤪

What’s the dark spot cream please?

Oooh, I’ll have a look at this - thanks!

Are you taking b vitamins or collagen? Apparently those are good for hair

SharkyMark · 28/04/2024 10:46

Well I tell you why I mentioned peri, I had my baby when I was 22 and I lost a lot of my hair. I had pretty low iron and vit D. I took serious care of it and it came back better than ever, I think it took 9 months or longer of oiling it 2-4 times a week, no heat styling, scalp massage, hair vitamins, general vitamins, healthy diet. I am now 36 and my greys are wiry, losing more hair around the temple and top. Thyroid test came back fine, a bit of anemia and low vit D but nothing major. I assume for me it's my hormones.

Atomickittyxx · 28/04/2024 10:54

I had lovely curly hair up until I had my third child nearly eight years ago. I now have a slight wave and nothing I do will coax my curls back so now my hair is neither straight or curly and unless I straighten it looks a mess 😞.

Blessedbethefruitz · 28/04/2024 10:54

@Peclet @Lifeisbetterinflipflops8 It's Nivea anti dark spot serum, £15 odd on amazon :)

B vitamins yes, but not collagen - I’ll have a look into that, thanks!

Can't help with the hair but I'd love my pregnancy nails back, they were long and strong and now they are a peely brittle mess.
