Baby at a coil fitting appointment

Hi all

Is it unreasonable to take my baby to a coil fitting appointment tomorrow?

He’s 11 months old. I ordinarily have great support but for a multitude of (very last minute) unfortunate reasons I don’t have childcare for the appointment.

I’ve been waiting ages for it and really don’t want to cancel but of course will if it’s not appropriate.

I’d just plan to keep him in his buggy but have no idea how long the appointment is likely take.

Please could I have your thoughts?

Thank you

I'm pretty sure my son at 11 months would have been fine. Depends on the child

Too late now I expect, as I imagine you’ve either gone or cancelled. But I fit coils and we often have accompanying babies. Never been a problem.

Smear test, yes. Coil, you can try but it could be a disaster.

Thanks so much everyone for all your thoughts. My plan was to phone the surgery this morning and if they would allow if I was planning on taking him along based on the overall consensus here, though admittedly I wasn’t entirely confident about that decision. At the very last moment though an amazing friend came through for me. She sat in the waiting room with him while I had it fitted. I’m at home now putting him down for a nap.

the procedure itself was absolutely fine. I barely felt a thing.

I took my 5 month old, she was fine, just chilled in the pram and listened to music on my phone.

Yes of course it's fine!!

I'm sure the doctor won't bat an eyelid and would be thrilled to see your baby.

What a nonsense post.

You're not in a position to be sure about any of that.

MyPurpleHeart · 26/04/2024 12:02

I did because I had no choice. DH works and my family arent very babysitty types.

She was fine, she was in her pram with a toy. We pulled the curtain back so she could see my head and the rest of me was covered. It was 10 minutes and job done

Glad it all went well.

I had my baby with me at my first coil fitting- it was fine. I don’t live near my family so I’ve always had to take my kids to appointments when they were tiny, no one has ever batted an eyelid.

I took three of my children to the epau. I needed to go and at the last minute I had zero childcare. I rang ahead and explained and they told me to bring them. As soon as I arrived they were waiting and took me straight through. Kids sat on other side of the curtain with a kinder egg each.
I've never been more grateful to that nursing team in all my life. They were amazing for me and the kids.
