To ask for the biggest CV fails you've come across?

Have just realised I've been sending off a CV with a sentence that reads "I undertook regular security checks of the hotel during evening shits." I had meant to say "shifts". I thought I had proofread the CV thoroughly before sending it off, but clearly not enough. I was wondering why I was receiving so little interest for basic retail/food service jobs. Absolutely mortified. Any stories to make me feel better? Can be from you or from CVs you have reviewed during your working life.

Thank you for reviving the thread to make that invaluable contribution.

Do you also write those useful product reviews that say 'Haven't used it yet, so can't say whether it works..', and 'Bought as a gift and haven't opened the box.'?

Crying with laughter reading some of these - but @potatoschpotato the comic sans epic sounds absolutely hilarious 😂

I just read that out aloud to my 11yo DS (who is really into computers), and was thinking that Windows 97 was obviously from a long time ago and obsolete now... but he instantly reminded me (and I was there, using computers in 1997, but he obviously wasn't) that Windows 97 isn't just very old; it never actually existed in the first place!

But there was an Office 97 which may have led to the confusion.

I recently stopped a sixth former from pressing send on a CV in which he claimed 2 years experience as a barrister at a well known coffee shop chain.

I telephoned for a reference for someone I had just interviewed, I got through and asked for the person named on the application, the person who answered gave a laugh and said they would put me through. When the person I wanted to speak to answered I confirmed they were the person I was looking for by asking if they were Mrs X (name listed on the application), they asked me if I was taking the piss. I was slightly taken back but when they told me their actual name it became apparent that the applicant had written what must have been a nickname on the application. I won't give the exact names because would be very outing but imagine if someone was called Mrs Frog, the applicant had listed the referee as Mrs Kermit.

Unfortunately the other interviewer had clearly pissed the applicant off, completely understandable IMO, so she didn't even answer the phone when I tried to contact her to alert her to the error. It was a shame because she was the best person we interviewed in what had been a very long day.

She was a great candidate so I'm sure she went on to have a good career.

Haha reminds me of my friend’s housemate who wondered, to the room at large, why wannabe lawyers had to do work experience at Caffe Nero wearing ‘Trainee Barista’ t shirts.

Into the bemused silence and sea
of raised eyebrows he mused: ‘is it part of the legal training…I don’t understand why it’s relevant’

Oat flat white extra hot M’lud.

To be fair, training as a barrister is a real grind.
