And to be really knowledgeable you would do well to understand about the law surrounding immigration advice in HE. Have a look at the UKCISA code of Ethics. And also the OISC Code of Standards.

You might want to familiarise yourself with the system in use at the HEI you're interviewing at. For example, does it monitor everyone; is it via swipe/tap data; how does it consider engagements, etc.
For example, here's Edinburgh's info - Engagement Monitoring | The University of Edinburgh
... and info for students at Glasgow - University of Glasgow - International students - International student support - Visas and Immigration - Applying for a Student Visa inside the UK
There should be pretty comprehensive info for whatever Uni you're being seen at. Good luck!

A sponsor license will likely be the organisation who has the license - so they can sponsor students. A visa is a visa. The compliance team will be ensuring these organisations do what they say they do. Is this a civil servant role?

England and Scotland are the same in terms of student immigration matters.

To answer your question, no they are not the same.

A visa is the permission given to a person to enter the UK, and in this case to study here.

A student sponsor licence is the permission given to the education provider (the university or college) to allow them to accept students from overseas and to issue CAS (confirmation of acceptance to study).

Thanks, it’s a role at a Uni- visa officer
